her plasma leaves burns and scars, nothing but ashes for her elongated hands to grasp at. Her pale body can not wrap around the destruction her flame leaves behind. Her toys... a s h e s her home... a s h e s the bodies of her family... a s h e s. Because in the end, everything around her falls to ashes.

Momma said her head was too strong, and her heart and soul too dumb, but Momma never knew that her flames were too hot. Momma and Poppa never acknowledged her spirit, her craftsmanship, her fire. They knew all about Angi and Peri, their accomplishments and award, their fires, but never Corentine's. Momma and Poppa's eyes burned with pride at their names, never hers. 

Angi and Peri were bonfires, tall, slender, and handsome. They joked and laughed, their words engrossed others, wrapped them in a warm embrace of friendship. And next to their bonfires flicked the lone candle that was Corentine. Her auburn hair matched the frazzled girl who accompanied it, the words that stumbled out of her mouth were snuffed by lack of conviction. She was nothing but a lone flicker... who wanted to be bonfire.

But as she lay among the ashes of desperation Corentine knew she burned to bright, Scorched away her life with her flickers of resentment regret rejection and left behind was the girl with a lighter.

For now she lay in the charcoal of her old life, but when the firm hand leads her lanky body up the steps of the orphanage, she'll be walking  to the kindling of a new fire.
