LEONIDAS CADOGAN EVERITT

With a panicked breath and hurried legs, Leonidas Cadogan Everitt tumbled away from the fight at hand. Blood poured from the gash across his neck, seeping out with every breath he took. His weapon had been dropped long behind him as his good hand clasped onto the wound, trying with all his might to hold his life within him. Like an hourglass filled with sand, blood was leaving his body and ticking down the seconds. Scratches all over his figure ached with unbridled pain, much like the poorly bandaged wound that was his severed arm. Oh, now you decide to hurt. You couldn't have waited until after I can't feel my body? He knew his time was up when he started talking to himself in an internal dialogue.

And yet he had made it away from the violent fight that was going on, his feet carrying him as far as they could before he dropped to his knees in a watery puddle. His body lurched forward to fall onto his hands, but he toppled over to one side when only one hand came out to support him. Tears were stinging behind his eyes, threatening to pour out at any second. And yet he bit his lip tightly, fighting them back with every ounce of strength he still possessed. You can do this, Leo Everitt. You aren't out of this yet. You can be someone. You can be someone important.

It was a blatant lie, but that lie held him together for the moment. The puzzle that was the young, withdrawn boy was being loosely kept whole by all the lies he told. His mind had become a desolate wasteland, once a paradise filled with potential so incredibly vast that not a single mind could handle it. Leo was too smart for his own good, never quite capable of taking part in the moment he existed in as he planned eight steps ahead. He remained in his wasteland with his lies and pain, drowning out the bleak present he lived in. A present where he lie with a missing arm, a gushing wound upon his neck and bloody cuts tearing through his smooth skin. A present with nobody by his side, as he always expected would happen.

Until he heard footsteps approaching him, that was.

It’s easy to spare a murderer if you’re one yourself. Leo Everitt of District Three, a man with sexy black hair, almost killed Daria. He cut her god damn foot off. Holding his arm in my own hand makes me show pity on him as he crawls away. He endured that pain overnight, he probably didn’t even get any sleep. Now, he’s a dead man. He’ll eventually bleed out due to my axe and Tyler’s blade constantly cutting deep into already aching flesh.

When Tyler goes back to follow Daria and Heather, I only stay for a quick second. I need to make sure that Saxton and Jequirity leave Leo to die peacefully alone. My eyes look down to see a mask, and while I pick it up, I notice my leg is still bleeding through its last session. I place my axe in my back and pick it up. I have gloves, an armpiece, and a chestplate, but this has to be the most aesthetic thing yet.

I wrap my leg with some more bandages after seeing my leg’s wound calm but not fully healed. It has stopped its bleeding, but I still feel the blazing fire that stings every time I put pressure onto my leg.

I put the mask over my face, shielding the cool wind from freezing me. It’s my mask, and I plan on doing some murder mystery to make sure that a special someone doesn’t come back for revenge.

After assisting Daria with her wounds, I sneak away from them. They can’t watch. I know that Heather may be a bit more violent, but I want to do this alone. Daria and Tyler, they don’t deserve to see my plans to seal Leo Everitt’s face with his own arm. His unattached limb has grown on my, to be frank. Leo Everitt- almost a murderer and Mr. Armolas. If I find him again, I will make sure not to give that little fucker any second chances. I should have done in right then and there in front of Saxton and Jequirity. It is truly what they deserve for almost murdering someone so innocent like Daria.

I hold his arm like a bat in my hand, searching high and low from the male from Three. I don’t know where he could be. He could be a fast crawler and be halfway across the arena by now, or Leo could be anywhere.

Am I getting warmer, or have I past him already? I should be able to hear him by now as I walk through the bog. I make sure I’m cautious enough not to fall into any of those pits like Jequirity did, and I definitely don’t want to find a mutt lurking anywhere near.

”Leo, where could you be?” I say as I swing his arm like a bat. I could swing his clean off of his head. I could use it as a club and bang it onto him constantly until he doesn’t breathe. I could basically crush any necessary organ to make sure he doesn’t take another breath. I could stab his eyes in with his own arms.

Rodrick Benstaloe, you’re turning to the dark side!

I don’t take that as a warning, but I gladly accept it as a welcome with open arms. The Dream Master always wanted me to be faithful to him since the start of the games, and up until now, I’ve been trying to resist the temptation to do so. Now, I stand with an arm like a club, ready to finish what I started. If only I could find the son of a gun sooner, then I could hear the cannon and it’d be over. They’d think he just bleed out, but instead, I’d be his murderer with full credit.

I see one arm grab on to the ground and two legs pull. A head. A body. They all red flag themselves as Leo, and I speak. ”Leo, guess who’s back?!”

”Please. Please, just leave me alone,” I hear his panicked voice. It excites me, and pity is not an option by now. I have to finish what I’ve started. I grab him by the back of his collar, pulling him closer to me.

”Gotcha! Guess you were thinkin’ you could get away, huh?” I speak with pure evil just as the Dream Master would. He wants me to do it. My dreams are my primary concern, and I have to make sure they please him. He truly is the controller of my dreams; he just gives me choices and I have to choose a pathway. In this case, I chose the pathway of evil rather than good. The third encounter is a charm, and I’m going to make sure he doesn’t get away this time. Let him plea for his life, but don’t listen, Rodrick. The Capitol loves drama! I agree, Master. The Capitol wants a show, and the best shows have drama.

”No!” his eyes begin to fill with tears, and I’m glad I have my mask to hide my feelings. I’m going to kill this boy now as he begs to see another day just through his tears. Finish what you’ve started, Rodrick. I promise you’ll be okay! the Dream Master is very convincing, and I do as he asks.

”Sorry, buddy, but I don’t like people who try to murder my friends,” I hold his arm in both hands and press the limb against his neck. I’m going to make sure breathing for him will be hard from now on. I keep his arm over his neck, stomping on it with my feet. I want to make sure he feels pain when he dies. Now just keep it up and wait, Benstaloe. Do it for Daria and Rodney. I want to be brute with Leo. Man to man.

I continue to count down. If he doesn’t die within a little bit, I’ll just beat him to death instead of waiting.

I continue to press onto Leo’s neck until I hear the shot of a cannon. After a few extra seconds, I release the arm slowly. I kick him on his side, and he moves like a corpse. Congratulations! You killed him for real now. Isn’t it exciting?

Yes, it really is. I had to defend them by any means necessary. I stand, and switch Leo’s arm out for my axe. With murder comes challenge, and I look back to see that I’m not alone.

I’m truly sorry, Leo Everitt. But I can’t give you more than a third chance.

Each step rocked through the entirety of Leo Everitt's body, buzzing throughout his skeleton like an electrical current. The puddles of the bog were splashed through by boots worn by some approaching tribute. They're heavier. Likely a man. Even in the weakest moments, Leo's mind was working a million miles a minute, fighting to keep up with every single piece of existence surrounding his collapsed body. And with a confident voice came words that struck fear into the young boy. "Leo, where could you be?"

Eyes turned upwards then to locate the source of the voice, landing upon the monster that worked his way towards Leo. All the young man could see was blood, and that mask. A creature was climbing his forward as if he was hungry for the flesh that still wrapped around Leo's musculature. A beast hungry for the life that Leo clutched on to so desperately was approaching far faster than Leo could attempt to get away. There's no use. That was the thought that washed through all of his body, settling all nerves.

"Leo, guess who’s back?" Death had found him, this beaked monstrosity holding what looked like a club in his hand. He could feel a force grabbing upon his collar, pulling him in the direction of the beast's mouth and not letting go. "Please! Please, just leave me alone!" It came out in a weakened voice, almost like a whimper of sorts. The young boy was near prepared to beg for his life, but nothing else escaped from his lips then. "Guess you were thinkin’ you could get away, huh?" He wanted nothing more than to get away and yet it was an impossibility now as the plague monster gripped to him tightly. He had no strength left. Leo was dead weight being held by the clasp of a creature.

Numerous cries left his lips then, tears burning in his eyes. "No! No no no no." There were streams travelling down his cheeks as he cried for the remaining existence of life he had, incredible pain washing over his body. The gushing wound upon his neck was still leaking blood, now onto the arm that held him firmly. And then he felt another limb press up against his neck, constricting against his windpipe. Is... Is that my own arm? Sure enough his severed limb was held tightly against his throat, cutting off any chance of breathing properly.

"Sorry, buddy, but I don’t like people who try to murder my friends" There was no pain from the crushing force against his throat, but he could feel that uncomfortable feeling cuing up at the tips of his fingers. Blood was leaving his extremities already and air was not getting in to his chest as easily as it had been short moments before. The force was growing heavier and heavier as the creature above him limited the air flow entering into his body.

Eyes were fluttering as he tried to grasp onto reality, light pouring all over him though providing no heat. Breezy air covered all of his body, or so it seemed. I'm dying. He was growing cold and losing the fresh pumping of blood through his system, life beginning to fade away with every second that passed by.

It wasn't quick and yet it wasn't slow. Leo was there in one moment and then gone in the next, eyes bulging out slightly and a blue colouring across his face. Blood stopped pumping towards his brain, and he was dead just like that. And yet he felt as if everything around him was still observable, his body being kicked over by his killer. A cannon boomed loudly, echoing all around as it confirmed that he was in fact dead.

Leo Everitt took his last breath with his severed limb pressed upon his throat, bidding farewell to the world.
