Name: Marcus Cahill
Age: 16
Gender: Male
District/Area: District 10
Appearance:
(His name is Peyton Meyer.)
Marcus is the youngest in his immediate family. He has two older brothers that work with his parents in the farms of District 10. He has brown hair, green eyes, as well as an athletic build. He would describe himself as athletic and healthy because of how he has eaten healthy for all of his life (thanks to his mother's small garden and the abundance of manure), and how he's the "deliverer" of things that his parents need for work. If they ever forget anything, he's the one that goes to the house, grabs it, jogs out towards the farms, gives the item to them, and jogs back home. He's pretty much your average Joe; he's 5 feet, 9 inches, and weighs 150 pounds. He's also your average student, getting mainly B's in school.
He isn't really anything special and his family is a reason for that. His family is basically the normal, boring, everyday family you see. Marcus isn't really insecure about his appearance. However, he does have a small scar, normally hidden in his hair from when he was little and his older brothers decided that he needed a hair cut. But other than that... He's pretty much fine with how he looks. Marcus enjoys wearing short-sleeved T-shirts, as well as jeans, but he'll wear anything to "fit in." Being spontaneous and out-of-the-ordinary is not something he enjoys. He's a quick thinker and a fast runner. Whenever he's complemented, he's quite modest about it. Modesty is a quality that he likes about other people.
Personality:
Introverted/Shy
Marcus is quite introverted. Marcus is most definitely not an extrovert. If he was given the decision of going out around the town or just staying home, he would pick the latter option. He didn't really think being so introverted was a problem until a couple of years ago. He didn't really care what people said about him, but his parents dislike how he's so shy. He now realizes that there is some truth in what they say. People that don't expose themselves and stand out are forgotten. He didn't used to care about being hidden, but now he kind of does. He dislikes how he's so shy but he also enjoys it as well. The moments where him being shy is a hindrance is when he dislikes it, but when there are benefits of being quiet, he enjoys it.
Flirty
A shy yet flirty person has been a strange combination indeed. That's how Marcus is though. He is quite shy, so therefore at school, he isn't the popular jock that everyone seemingly likes. However, with his close friends, he's "flirty" with them. (The "flirting" is normally done jokingly of course). There are also those random "explosive" emotion moments when he breaks out of his shell and becomes an extrovert while flirting with someone else for a second before retreating back into the box he built himself. There are some people that try their hardest to flirt, but cannot do it. He is not one of them... He's a "natural flirt" if you will. There has to be some benefit of being flirty right...?
Hard-Working
Another personality trait of Marcus is that he's extremely hard-working. He works with energy, commitment, and diligence. He will do whatever it takes to get to his goal and what he wants. He used to be a fairly poor student, getting mostly D's and C's in his classes at school. He knew that his grades were bad, so he changed how he studied, he did the homework that teachers assigned him, and his grades climbed up and stabilized at the letter B. He's even getting the occasional A. A goal of his right now is to crack down on himself more and to push himself a little bit harder until he's getting all A's. Some of his friends think that he's insane and they're fine with their low grades. Some of his friends don't need to study to get good grades. Marcus is breaking the stereotype, one good grade at a time. One bad apple doesn't spoil the bunch.
Sensitive
Marcus doesn't take criticism well and he gets hurt when people don't think he's capable of doing things. He doesn't like being yelled at (who does?), and he doesn't like being in the vicinity of any arguing. One time, he was at his friend's house and his friend started getting yelled at by their parents. He just started to randomly cry and the screaming stopped. His friends parents must have thought he was mentally insane or something. He's pretty sure that everyone thinks very little of him and thinks that he's weak because of how emotional he can get. However, a "man" isn't suddenly not a man because they're capable of showing emotion and aren't a douche to everyone that they meet. Nearly everyone knows that he's easily hurt so people try to step around him when he's upset. Luckily, he's a teenager who isn't too sensitive about his appearance.
History:
Marcus' childhood was quite normal except for one out of the ordinary circumstance. When he was around 4 years old, his brothers, ages 5 and 6 at the time decided that he needed a haircut. They grabbed some scissors used for arts and crafts and cut his hair, cutting part of his scalp, leaving him bleeding, crying, and needing stitches. His mom sewed up the fairly small but somewhat deep laceration on his head together and forbade his brothers from touching any scissors in the house. The wound healed, but it left him with a weird scar that he quite dislikes. It just reminds him of his one traumatic experience from the past. Most people would just forget about it, but he never did.
When he was a little kid, starting on the first day of school, he was different from everyone else in his class. Everyone else just did what they were told, but he had a bunch of questions about everything. His curiosity was hated on by all of his teachers. They disliked how they couldn't just tell him something and for him to do it. Marcus needed to know WHY he was doing something before he did it. Whatever he had to do had to interest him, otherwise it was ignored. This phase of his life didn't last very long. It was eventually leeched out of him. The vibrant, colorful child turned into every other one in his class... Boring, bland, plain...
Now back to the present, his parents are trying to give him everything that he wants, but that isn't really possible. His family makes enough to feed a family of 5, plus a little bit more, so they have to spend most of their money on food, leaving the little bit of money that's left for any emergencies that are needed. He wants to work with his brothers and parents on the farm as well, but his parents continually tell him that he needs to study and do well in school. They then lecture him on why they chose the name "Marcus." They talk about how Marcus refers to the God of Mars and how Mars is the God of War and how he needs to remember to never stop fighting. He normally blanks out when they're lecturing him, but this lecture always sticks with him.
He jogs to school early (maybe around 8-9), and then he jogs home (around 3-4). He'll admit that he used to hate school (for reasons unknown to his parents), but that was when he had no friends and when the teachers hated him and "singled him out" for being different. He made his first friend around age 7, started crushing on people around age 8, and started getting confused about who and what he liked at age 12. He recently just got over a crush. Let's just say that the person would never, ever, like him back. Marcus doesn't understand how some people crush on someone that they've never talked to before. He thinks that those people are weird and do not understand what they're talking about. He thinks you need to get to know someone before you start crushing on them.
Marcus loves the wide-open outdoors of District 10, and although he's living in a dictatorship, it really hasn't affected him that much. I mean... He could be sent into the games every year, or one of his friends could. He doesn't really have an opinion on the Capitol though. Obviously, he's supposed to love them because they didn't destroy his District like they did with District 13. However, he doesn't. He knows he's supposed to hate them because of how they murder 23 teenagers every year. You could say that Marcus is indifferent about the Capitol, and he will be indifferent until something they do hit's close to home.
