When Harbinger Rhodes won the Seventy First Hunger Games, you couldn't help but feel a cold ball of anxiety build up within you.

Sure, it was a monumental event. No district in memory, much less District Eleven, of all places, had won the Games three times in a row. Even District Twelve hadn't done it during their surprising reign of dominance nearly two decades ago.

But you can't help but have a nagging suspicion that with the victory of yet another kid from your district, that any other tribute reaped from home over the next few years is doomed from the beginning.

You've always been a bit of a worrier, ever since the birth of your younger sister. Acquaintances call it being overly wary, while your parents called it being overprotective. You prefer the term cautious, as you like to take your time and think about an action as opposed to simply rushing forward and committing to a questionable action while only worrying about the consequences later. As a result, you've been called a coward and no fun, among other things. However, you simply take the comments with a grain of salt. You'd rather be a coward and alive than reckless and dead.

You never really knew the three victors from your district outside of occasionally catching glimpses of them in the halls or the fields, even though all three of them were not that much older than you were yourself. But ever since you were a small kid, you've payed careful attention to the Games, for the very real fear that you might one day get reaped and forced to fight for your life in a deadly arena of some sick Capitolite's choosing. Your parents dismissed your worries as childish fears. "We've always been lucky enough to never sign up for tessarae, and I sure as hell don't intend to start until all of my kids are out of the house." your father stated, yet the knowledge did little to soothe you. After all, how many kids per year had been reaped despite no usage of tesserae? How was your father so confident it wouldn't happen to you?

Your father wasn't wrong on one aspect, however. You were one of the lucky ones, always having enough food to maintain near the standard nutrition for a teenager. You aren't rail thin like some of the unluckier ones, and both your eyes and hair shine with the signs of health. If there's one physical aspect you dislike about yourself, it's your height; your mother's side of the family was never among the tallest in the districts, and you had the misfortune of inheriting it. As a result, you barely stand at five feet two inches. Your sister, on the other hand, avoided that curse and stands at a more average five feet six, despite the fact that she is two years younger than you, a fact that she never lets you forget, to your dismay.

With the exception of your height, overall you are content with how you look. Chocolate brown eyes sparkle warmly at anyone who hasn't earned your disdain, matching rather well with skin the color of brown sugar. Ebony black hair falls down to your shoulder blades when undone, a style that you prefer, even if it makes work a rather annoying process. Even with several meals a day, you are on the slim side, weighing in at barely 115 pounds soaking wet and making you one of the smaller teens your age.

What you lack in size, however, you make up for in determination. Though it can take you some time to decide on the best course of action, once you've decided on something, chances are you're going to see it through to the end. It's been the one advantage you've had on your side throughout the years, as you don't have the hulking frames of some of the boys or the quick, nimble intellect of both kids and adults alike. After all, your parents always said that it was only over when you gave up, and that was a piece of advice you took to heart.

Though it sometimes is difficult to see at first behind your naturally cautious, shy exterior, inside you are a caring, warm person. Living in the Eleventh District in the years before the victor triumvirate was a thing, you saw just how badly poverty and misfortune could affect someone. Though both your parents and the Peacekeeper presence was strict, you did what you could to help those less fortunate, even if it was to only offer moral support.

You jokingly blame this part of you on your sister, as well. Born when you were a mere two years old, the two of you have been as thick as thieves, holding a strong bond with one another for as long as you can remember. Your early childhood, as a result, was rarely boring, as you occupied yourself having fun and causing mischief with your far more impulsive sister. Though at first you criticized her attitude, as you grew older you realized that, one, it would be pointless to try and disagree with her, and two, she was smart enough to handler herself in the rare event that she did mess up.

As you grew into your reaping years, the more cautious, shy part of your personality took over. Even though you would only be eligible for the reaping for six years, it was a great cause of stress and worry for you. You remember vividly as Katelyn, Kirito, and Harbinger were reaped, the former and latter along with another, and you remember just as vividly as they hacked and fought their way to the finish, bringing glory, fame, and wealth to your home three years in a row. But deep inside you, you know that the luck of Eleven cannot last, and you hope that the Lacroix family is fortunate enough to escape the hammer that is sure to strike your district in retribution.

But if the unthinkable happens, and either you or your sister is reaped, then you will simply set your jaw and continue forward. After all, it's never over until you give up.
