People who have never starved think hunger sits in your belly. It doesn't. It sits in your mind. When you're hungry, your stomach growls and carries on, like I used to, just a few years ago. When you're starving, your stomach cramps and cramps until it is the size of a pea. That's when it gets back. That's when all you can think about is food. Hot meals, cold meals, healthy vegetables and rotting garbage. Anything will do. Even if it will make you sick.

That's how starvation twists your thoughts.

It's pretty much always been like this, for the Creed family, near as I can tell. My older siblings sort of look like me. A little gaunter, a little leaner, a little taller. None of us are giants; undernourishment stunts your growth, among other things. I was a cute kid but now that I'm almost a teenager, I'm not so cute any more. And I'm not as fast as other thieves, so I've learned to be a smooth talker. Turns out, people don't like hearing about how starvation gardens your mind.

They'd much rather pay me to shut up.
