Setting up a simple trap, I’ve been focusing on this station all morning and the biggest thing that my trap has caught, is a roll of bandages that I threw in. Each time I make the trap bigger and the target larger, the seconds it takes to spring them into the air is much longer which is no help. If a mutt or a tribute steps onto my traps, they’ll have time to step out of them again. It’s frustrating; I am frustrated at the trainers for being no help as well as the centre back home. Why had I never focused on such a skill at home? It is very exciting.

I can imagine it now, a tribute…or a number of them walking around the arena and suddenly being sprung up into my own traps. Of course I wouldn’t make them deadly traps…I want to be the one that performs their end…

Growing tired of my efforts to create a large trap, I’d scour the room, looking for any pieces of meat to play with. Every single tribute that I have affiliated myself with has either been very nice or unwilling to talk. It seems I send a wildfire through their hearts and they either feel obliged to help or are too scared to talk to me.

Noticing the youngest tribute of Eleven, sat twiddling by the fire making station, a flag would raise above her…party time. I know the luck that Eleven holds and I want to be the one that stomps it out.

Moving across the room to the girl, I’d stand in front of her, snapping the sticks she is trying to ignite with the soles of my feet. ”It is going to be hard to find matches in the arena…little girl.”

Having noticed my feet break the twigs that the girl is trying to set a light, I’d place my hand on my mouth, forcing a meaningless “oh dear” to fall silently from my lips. Rotating my left foot, I’d finish off the job of breaking the sticks, making the fragments of wood grow smaller with the pressure from my shoe. Really I wish killing someone was as easy as breaking a twig although that may just be right for this girl that I stand before.

It’s cruelty really, sending in younglings like this piece of scrap. Cruelty for me for sure…as it makes my job so much simpler…but I want a challenge. For years I have trained to fight and protect myself from great challenges and well the girl from District Eleven is far from a great challenge. Really I give her a day at least to survive, along with all the other younglings, any longer than that…is just borrowed time and well I want to go to where they bought this time.

”Yeah it’s good that you know….you do resemble a match stick.” Seeing the nerves fall from the girl’s earlier comments a smirk would roll onto my face as I can see that I am making her feel inferior. ”A three year old can use matches…go focus on something else…like learning how to get out of everyone’s way”
