they wanted another boy and she arrived proudly defiant. fists clenched, stoic, calling for attention as they slung the prescribed name around her neck anyway, hurriedly changing a letter or two to fit their surprise of a daughter.

"ryan's a girl! ryan's a girl!" the children shrieked. her mother tightened her lips in despair. her father smiled.

"this is rian," he said, "and she will be brilliant."

he never thought any less of her, daddy's little girl. who played tea parties for approximately 3 minutes before kicking the table over and throwing the china cups at the wall. again, her mother pursed her lips and sighed. her father only beamed.

she reigned their home as a princess and graced the streets a queen, a headstrong combination of beauty and grace and "i'll punch you in the face." born and bred to be wild she became a lioness: proud and honest and brilliant. beautiful from far away and deadly up-close. lethal and temperamental, with sparkling eyes and diamonds around her neck and a picture-perfect face painted on every morning to disguise the decaying mess she's slowly becoming. burning out from the inside she roams her streets as a wildcard, spitting poison at her enemies and laughing as the sun creeps away behind the horizon and lets the stars send her to sleep.
