I am preparing myself to die. I already know that it won't be me going out with a bang, but I might as well try to appear as though I at least care. Everyone else here cares. Sure, you don't see someone from a lower district trying to forcefully rip off a dummy's arms all that often, but they still seem like they are trying to find a way to survive. If any of show that we don't care, we will die all the more painfully than however we could have died. Which would be better, a spear to the neck or a knife to an eye with a quick death, or would you rather a slow death with some mutt torturing you with an odd finess.
My long fingers gently loop a knot into place at the trapping station. It's an interesting hobby to bide my time away with for the next few days, and makes it seem as though I at least care somewhat. I place the noose on top of a fake tree and let it dangle down below. Now I could hang someone if I wanted to. Why do the let us have such dangerous weapons before the games even start? What if we end up killing each other by means of horribly made nooses?
Maybe they just don't care.
