watching for comets {daniel}

it was a night with the outdoors, a moon-lit escape from whatever expectations people had for them to stay indoors that night. preserving the moments of life they had with night like this- the stars giving them endless opportunities and endless space to talk. it was like a sanctuary of sorts, with the crickets chirping and the nights waning. they awaited for them to speak like a crowd of children listening for a story. they watched; eyes alert and with their ears perked. a stop in their patterned breath, distracted by the world entangling him. the dark cloaked the colors that had been breathed into. the silence between the two wasn’t by association or sparring arguments that most people would normally fall into. they were silent, inhaling the beauty that most people rest their days away with. this was a sanctuary of hidden lies and whispered stories. where people could dance with the wind and sing with the stars.

they lay there, daniel and blanche. blanche and daniel. the couple. bless his soul that he was able to call someone his love at such a raw and young age.

blanche summit, dear god, this night seems more beautiful than it did without her. he turns his head to her, seeing her gentle features. one of the little things he enjoyed when looking at her was searching her eyes. they were so beautiful that he never wanted to take his sight away from the female. they had their calming look in her eyes that made him never want to look away. they were hypnotising. he never wanted to leave her because she made him happy, and he’d hope that he made her happy. daniel was never sure if people was ever fond of him ever since he learned of sue’s relation to him. his life had been a lie - who’s to say when someone tells him that he means something wasn’t a lie? daniel never wanted to leave because [she was his source of happines]

to most people, it seems like they’d spend their eternity trying to find someone they love. find their dream boy or dream girl, end up getting the “love of their life” or their “trophy boy” or “trophy girl”. like they would just search for ages and ages to get that one man or woman that they’ve dreamed of their entire life. a muscle man who looks could kill, or a woman who can make a man stop and stare. they’d wait ages for just the right looking person. they have a list of things they’d want in that one person, like it’s a house or something, and they won’t be satisfied if a few of them are missing.

fortunately, for daniel, he never had to look that hard to find his ‘dream girl’. all he wanted was someone who could make him smile, someone who could make him love the life he had. people say that being in love with someone as an eighteen year old was fake. it was a dream, something they wanted to happen but it just won’t happen. a fantasy where a knight receives the princess and all is well. she falls for him, he falls for her. they live a happily ever after.

and, in his opinion, it does feel like a fantasy. it felt unreal. every time he saw blanche he has to blink twice. once, to take in her beauty, and twice to make sure he wasn’t insane. it was a fantasy, it felt unreal that someone like him was with someone like her. he felt like at any moment he could wake up from this dream and realize that he wasn't with her after all.

funny how the most real of things seem like it's not real at all. the silence that encloses them in this sanctuary made it seem tense, like they had to say something. he’s always had this doubt that the two of them would have actually made it far. he had that small thought in his mind that she doesn’t even like him, that this was pity. that this actually wasn’t real on one side, and he believed it sometimes. but it was moments like this that ruin those thoughts, make them go away and renew his belief in that this was real. they were real.

the conversation of the games was often. if they were to be reaped, if one were to volunteer for whatever reason. they always worried - they went through similar pains. they don’t know what they’re doing or where they’re going to be in recent years. what was going to happen to them? obviously, something, but hell- they don’t know. a glance at the stars- he returns his focus towards the female next to him. "we'll be okay," he hoped. he prayed and he hoped. he wasn’t surprised when they found themselves on the same topic. it was like a mutual feeling in the air, one of those moments where you can tell what the other person was talking about. does that make sense?

"are you sure?" she seemed about as positive as him.

"i'm sure." he prayed, he hoped. daniel never liked to imagine the idea of him going off into those games - the situation that’d be in place. they’d be forced to the idea of separation, of never seeing each other again. they’d be forced to whatever life sue and stella had been sent to, to whatever life wyatt went to. whatever life that everyone in there went to- they’d reunite. they’d join the others who were as unfortunate [or is it fortunate] as they were. hand in hand, breath in breath. they could be resting in the stars - watching the couple. breathing down their necks and making every tree wave back and forth, perhaps them waving to them. a hello or a goodbye. looking up at the sky, he remembered the stories of greek myths that live up in the stars. warriors who fell fighting for justice. they wanted to be the heroes that defeated their villains. the good when all you could see was bad. there is no good, there is no bad. there's no villain or no hero. there's the unfortunate, there's the unlucky. there's people who never got to know if their life was real or not.

daniel was one of those people.

he’s leaving her, and she leaving him. and, this is to whatever god that may or may not exist; may their disconnection be long. may it be strung out, left for her to enjoy. he wants to see her again, but not today. not in the life he’s headed to. not tomorrow or the day after that, not next month or next year. he wants to see her happy; he wants to see her pure.

i pray, i hope.

his fantasy was awakened to the sound of a cannon. shocking, really, that the fairy tail lasted that long anyways.
