A symbol of my family, lays centre stage on the surface of the table that I have been instructed to sit at, is that cap the thing I will take into the arena? The one thing that identifies us, do I really need to make a mark of my family’s existence in the games> I am not an ad placement. What am I to do now? Rather than just stare into space and contemplate my life. If this is the course Ripred or be it no god, just life, has put me on then…then I best journey forwards to my destiny. I have no family members to lead now, nobody to give advice too, no poor souls to cut…except now, I’ll be forced to kill.

Scrunching up the peak of the cap, I fight the thought out of my mind. In no time I’ll be stood on a podium, counting down to the moments where I might have to kill. If you want to come out of this, you will have to take a life. At home, the family hired people to do such dirty work but when I look at myself, I can see the blood that I have ordered to be spilled, splattered across my face. And now, that blood will be real.

Glancing around the room, I wonder who will visit me. Of course the men of the operation will be over the moon with the result, I am sure they would have likely put money on me being in the games, I bet they thought I was going to volunteer…

A splinter embeds itself into my index finger as I scratch at the table as I summon some sort of pain. Pain is all I’ll face in the next couple of days, just one of the flaws in my so called destiny. But first, I must face whoever comes through that door.

Writing Thoughts "Hears" "Says"

A web was spun on this day. A web of death and a new heir to the throne would be born. As soon as my brother's name was called, all I wanted to do was scream in joy. Father could put me aside like nothing. I would be the heir that belonged upon the throne of the Rasoio family name. As my heels click along the floor of the Justice Building, a place I've never thought I'd be going to, all I can imagine is Jenoah's smart mouth and protection of father dying with his body. No matter what father did, Jenoah was going in the Hunger Games to die. I wanted him to die and yet, I felt pity within her heart. Jenoah didn't deserve to die, but at the same time, he didn't deserve to lead the family business like I did.

Click. Click Click.

I approach the door with caution. Men with guns stand outside the door like personal bodyguards. Even being reaped, Jenoah has body guards that watch his every move. As the door opens, so does my smile. He sits at the table watching me as walk in. Click. Click. Click. My eyes scan him, the way he looks, his features, and everything I knew about his features. The world would be watching my brother fight to the death in the arena. ALl I can do is imagine the disappointment when he dies to some tribute from some god awful place. The smirk on my face widens as I speak to him, "Brother. Looks like you got lucky. Reaped for the Seventy Fourth Hunger Games." My hands cross at my chest as I stare at him, waiting for his reaction. Jenoah was trapped in a bigger web than my own, neither of us could know what would become of him.

We've developed a heavy hand for tragedy.

It had come in the flames that had devoured our old house. Greedily, the flames licked the flesh of my mother clean with it's greedy tongue and left behind our first taste. It was bitter, bitter enough to mark the last time I would cry ('crying will not bring her back') and leave me reborn in the stuttered silence that followed in the wake of our burned out house. And from the ashes we were reborn (I was reborn) and my hand became hard and steady to the new concept of tragedy. I caused it with weapons and my fists, cracking bones, breaking knees and leaving people crippled who could never pay. My hand is heavy and my judgement is harsh.

But even my steady hand for tragedy feels a slight tremble at the door of the justice building. The moment I heard the words Jenoah and Rasosio I instinctively felt the urge to volunteer but I held my silence - I'm over eighteen, I couldn't break the silence.

So here I stand, twisting and turning through hallways, passing through doors until I find the door guarded by those two white henchmen that call themselves angels; Peacekeepers. "I'm his brother." I say gruffly;breaking the silence is worth the access.

I burst through the door my brothers already filling the silence I so craved. Looks like you got lucky. Reaped for the Seventy Fourth Hunger Games." I hold back the urge to scoff, I don't want to contribute to defacing the already damaged silence. I quickly realize that it doesn't matter, silence doesn't matter when the life of your family and the future of your business is hanging by a thread. One life. Putting all your hopes in one basket is a dangerous game after all.

He won't live.

"Don't you dare die." I blurt out.

But a man can hope can't he?
