The training centre is home to brutes of all kind. Ugly ones who swear by a single way of living, moving and killing. Then, there are the beautiful brutes who shoot themselves in the foot with their soft appearances, but catch the bullet with their sharp reflexes and motivation.

I am determined to keep my distance. Ice cold, rolling my eyes from afar as children follow rules they don't like; I'm not like them. Everybody is changing but I don't feel like I have to.

This anger seems to be all I've ever known.

Reese moves with a hammer and something strikes me—I realise that maybe I should invest some time into learning something new. Everything would add up to a training score eventually, and that score could mean the different between being a bloodbath casualty or being crowned 'victor'.

My tired eyes droop to the throwing knives laid out evenly spaced on a grey table. It's all grey, every single thing and every inch of the room is a shade of monochrome. I feel colour blind here.

I take one of the blades in my hand and send it through the air towards a dummy in the distance—it hits the body to the left of the dummy I aimed at.

"Well, shit." I say, knowing that I'm not an ugly brute, or a beautiful one.

Bolts had finally settled on ranged weapons. He liked the idea of not getting too close to his opponents, especially because several male tributes were decidedly stronger and taller than him - as long as he could nail some from a distance, his chances would be greatly improved. Of course, killing from a distance was still killing. There was no way around that, and no sure way of telling if he would be capable of doing it once the time came. He decided he would just have to deal with that part later.

For now, it was only target practice.

Bolts looked up from balancing knives between his fingers as the girl from... seven?... walked up and took a stance at the station, throwing a knife and hitting a dummy. She was clearly not satisfied with the throw. Bolts stepped up next too her, handing her another knife.

"It's still a hit" he offered a half-smile, not sure if she was in the mood for talking "You just gotta make people believe that's the one you were aiming for..."

My teeth grind together, eyes widening as I stare across the training centre to where the knife hit. Pathetic, stupid thing—bloody, fucking thing. That throw would barely injure a person let alone kill, and in a game of murder, injury is not an option.

It's kill—or be killed, and I've decided that the first is much more appealing than the latter.

Bright boy, lightning boy from Three appears out nowhere and suddenly offers me another knife. I'll be damned if I don't take it, and so I snatch it out his hands with frustrated sigh. A second attempt would only injure my reputation and would miss the dummy by miles.

"It's still a hit," he says. My nostrils flare and I give a sarcastic perky smile. "You just gotta make people believe that's the one you were aiming for..."

"I came here to kill. That throw wouldn't have killed." I twirl the new knife between my fingers, looking towards the copper haired boy which playful eyes. "Anything less and I'm weak." My eyes roll.

I'm a tough girl, and that needs to be known.

"And weak—dunno about you," I look him up and down, "but that just ain't me."

Of course she did. Bolts remembered that she volunteered, which was very unusual for a lower district... the girl was probably a few cogs short of a pocket watch to begin with, but then again, she was far from being the only one.

"I figured." Bolts nodded with a solemn face, gracefully sidestepping her veiled jab at himself. He was weak and he knew it, so he could not claim with a straight face that he was not; but he was not about to give her the satisfaction of admitting. Instead, he balanced the knife in his hand for a moment before he threw it, hitting a dummy in the thigh.

"Well, that one would not have killed either" he noted with a cheerful shrug "But it would slow the guy... or girl... down..."

A lot more than I'd like to admit.

The boy swipes a knife, balancing it before throwing it into the thigh of a dummy.

"Well, that one would not have killed either, but it would slow the guy... or girl... down." I scoff.

"Bad girls never slow down." I cross my arms, arching a brow as I look to the knife pierced through the dummy's 'skin'. "That tribute would get an adrenaline rush, so here, you have two choices, but only five seconds."

I take another knife from the station, gently pressing the tip of my finger against the point. "Run, or throw another knife and hope it ends them."
