Brown paper diaries and feather quill pens; my prized possessions. I use them to recall and record how each day goes. What I did, who I encountered and interacted with, but most importantly: all the good things. Everything I see, hear, feel, and get involved in myself. Seeing two people embrace each other warmly, nuzzling their noses into their shoulders and breathing in their familiar, comforting scents. A little girl bringing her group of friends a container of cookies. Watching my little sister swing her dangling legs back and forth as she sits in tranquility on a branch of the willow tree beside our house, hearing her sing with the birds. Seeing mom and dad smile, because Lord knows it's not often I get to see people's mouths curling upwards. My cat Laurel curled up in my lap at night, sleeping as I write another entry into this book of thoughts and feelings with a cup of cocoa.
I want to remember these things, the good little things. I need to remind myself that at the end of the day, I'm still living amongst kind, beating hearts and people sweet as those cups of cocoa I get in the District Square on the good days. I desire to be like them and to keep living like this. My heart doesn't need to be tainted and blackened like many others.
If it wasn't for this log I update on a daily, I don't doubt it would've been by now.
