“Shh, baby girl. You don’t want to keep Mommy & Daddy from having a little fun, do you?” I plead with the merely months old youngster, as if she can already comprehend my words. This entire year we’ve been held from youthful enjoyment. And though I wouldn’t trade parenthood for anything, at the age of twentyfive I deserve at least a single alcoholic beverage a year...but there’s less than three hours left to complete such. “And I know you won’t fall asleep for your Babysitter. So let’s not torture anyone, and go off into dreamland?” I coax her in the only way Mizell & I are capable of.

The desirable soft snores, purely Babies can create, creeps upon my senses and ignites a rewarding grin across my cheeks. “Thank you, sweetheart.” The swaying cradle of my arms gently closes to an end, before I place the Rascal within her crib. Soft steps carry me from her nursery, to eagerly join Mizell upon the couch. Often this silence abruptly retrieves us to our own slumber from exhaustion, but tonight excitement enlightens my energy.

My lips stretch into a wider smirk as I see Able cocooned into slumber himself within his Daddy’s lap. “Looks like we were both successful tonight.” I gleam in a whispered tone, cautious about startling what we’ve worked so vigorously to achieve. “I didn’t want Pixie’s New Year’s to be hustled with getting them to sleep. It’s nice enough that she’s babysitting for us.” A brief kiss implants on Mizell’s lips before I curl up next to them upon the couch.

His leg twitches as he shifts on the couch. The six year old boy had given his father a run for his money when he was so eager to stay up to count in the new year with his parents. The previous year, the little tyke had told his dad that he was a big kid and that he would make it, however nine o'clock hit him hard and he was snoring just minutes after that. This year though, as stated again, he would make it.

"Alright, sport. Let's see if you can." The words were loving as he nestled his son under his arm, and began to tell a tall tale of fun. With Takyn in the next room with their new daughter, his task was easy.

It wasn't long before his son's eyes began to close, nodding off into a dreamlike state and as Mizell looked to the clock, the hands pointed to a number just four past the ten o'clock meter. "You didn't make it, son." He whispers and leans down to kiss his boy on the head, smoothing out his hair. Fearfully, he moves and shifts his body to lay on his father's bent knee. A hand runs across his back as his wife emerges with good news written upon her face.

"That's great for her. I just don't know how I'm going to get him up." His leg still gave him problems and tonight was one of them. "Come here, love." His arm swings around her neck. "Hope she gets here soon."

“I’m sure she will.” Reassurance easily combs past my lips, as I gladly settle against Mizell’s comforting side. “Plus I only crave one drink before the New Year. Just a little reminder we’re still in our twenties.” Only a single parenting responsibility resides, as Able still needs to be placed within his bed. But at this very second the position is pristine, though not enough so to retrieve my rare request of departure into the partying life we used to possess. For now the cuddle against my two boy’s is priceless, a physical remembrance of when parenthood had only began for us.

The exhaustion of having two children weighs upon my eyes, but I determinedly rub the sensation away. “Did you ever picture this for us, Mizell? When we first met in the hospital?” Memories continue to play, as I chase back my personal need for slumber with distraction. “I’m gonna go crack open that bottle of wine from last year, while you think.” I tease him, and force myself from his alluring warmth.

A sip is stolen before the glasses are even poured. That sweet sense rolls across my tongue, eliciting goosebumps down my spine from the forgotten scarlet taste. The beautiful liquid glides softly into it’s rightful glasses, and I return to my Loves. “Just incase the Babysitter decided to go party instead. Brief trip down memory lane?” Is offered, along with the drink to his free hand, and I retrieve back into my rightful place under one of his arms.
