that was how my life began.
i never really knew my parents, just the laws' "orphanage" that i grew up my whole life in. my parent's weren't there for my first laugh, my first startled waddle, my first garbled words. in their place jaime laws stood instead, welcoming me into his family just like the others.

i was always quiet outside of the laws' household, always grappling with my thoughts.

i wasn't good enough. i will never be good enough. why would they give me away? even 17 years after my parents left me in a chipped basket addressed to the laws, those three thoughts still haunt me.

Inside the house, I was accepted for who I am, and I was louder, more boisterous. I would play with the other children Jaime had taken into the house. I may have even developed strong feelings for Jaime's true child, Mitchell, but before I could confess my emotions, he was taken away from me.

then everything was quiet in the household. everything was quiet in my mind and the only thing i could see were gray tears staining the rug.

maybe one day the walls will reverberate with laughter once again, but not today.
