"It is time," the Escort announces, standing over the impatient people of the District, "To once again send our own children to the Capitol to compete in the Hunger Games. Let us begin the Reaping!"

The crowd seems to take in a single, united breath. Expectation and fear go to battle across every face, be it the ones brave enough to fight for their home or the watchful faces of their family and friends, neighbors and strangers. "Who will volunteer as tribute, for the honor and glory of your District?"

OOC- RPing is allowed. If you wish to volunteer, you must post by Wednesday, February 1st (11:59 PM). There may be multiple male and female tributes for each District.

Please leave an ooc note at the end of your post stating whether your character is volunteering or not.

Also, and this is important: If you are going into the arena, we suggest you take RP Tutoring lessons. It doesn't matter what level RPer you are; everyone can use a little help. RPing a tribute is a privilege; if you're not going to put the time and effort into making your posts the best they can be then you can count yourself among the dead. It's not a requirement, but it is recommended. They'll help even the most advanced RPer.

Please be extra considerate of the Tutor team these Games. There will be many more tributes than usual and the Tutors may also be writing tributes themselves. The more everyone works together, the better the experience will be for all!

Sage Scarborough

Sage had never really had the best life. He had terrible luck, and barely had any friends. The only person he'd ever grown close to aside from his sister was Affron Williams. When they'd met, the two boys shared a loaf of bread and really seemed to bond. Sage, however, didn't know if that one friendship was worth staying in his current life for. He was dirt poor, and didn't have parents any more. The boy had the worst luck of anyone he'd ever known. Overall, he thought of his life as pretty crappy. That's why, when he heard about the twist for the 75th Games, he jumped at the opportunity. He was going to volunteer.

When Sage got out of bed that morning, he avoided the gaze of his sister, Parsley. He wasn't going to tell her what he planned to do that day. She certainly wouldn't approve of him volunteering. He knew that for sure. After a small breakfast of bread, butter and a glass of water, the boy headed upstairs to get changed into his outfit for the reaping. Normally, this was a day he dreaded. He hated not knowing if he was going to his death. This time, however, when he was given a choice of what to do, he wasn't afraid. He actually wanted in.

Getting dressed into a button-up, baby blue shirt and some gray slacks, the boy put on his only pair of decent-looking shoes over his socks that each had at least one hole in them that wasn't supposed to be there. Sage laced up his shoes, and headed back downstairs where his sister was. She was ready for the reaping, too, by the time he got down there, and they hugged each other before heading out the door. Normally, the morning of the reaping was one of fear. This time, it was one that made them feel safe. Or at least, Parsley had to have felt safe. She assumed that they'd both go home that night, happy and free from the reaping. Unfortunately for her, Sage wouldn't be going home with his dear sister.

When Sage and Parsley finally arrived at the reaping, they each signed in and went to their respective sections of the area. Sage almost froze when volunteers were called for. He was second-guessing himself, not sure if he should do it. Then, however, his mind told him to get on with it. Sage listened, and shouted out the words that could very well end his life as he knew it.

"I volunteer!"

As soon as those words escaped his lips, he knew that he had just changed everything, not only for himself but for Parsley as well. If he didn't make it back, she'd be on her own. They'd never see one another ever again, and his older sister wouldn't have anyone left. He couldn't even imagine what that would do to her emotionally, but there was no turning back now. Sage had already allowed those words to be released into the air, sealing his fate, one way or another. Taking a deep breath, he made his way to the stage, all the while avoiding allowing his eyes to fall onto his sister. He didn't want to see the look on her face. He didn't want to know what this would do to her. He just wanted to get on with it all.

Hell would be a better place than reaping day in District 12.

Bodies surrounded himself in the pen of seventeen year olds, the sickly taste of anxiety thickening in the air until Affron was almost suffocated in it. The thought of their rations being shortened, the thought of maybe, just maybe not making it through another winter if no one volunteered, the distinct stench of sweaty and nervous bodies. It was just another reaping. He had made it this far, and he only had two more to go.

Like hell he was volunteering. Let some poor other shmuck fight for rations. He'd rather starve than willingly send himself into a spiral of trauma and despair. It was suicide, really. He didn't give a shit about honour and sacrifice. It was a every man to himself world, and he surely to goodness didn't care if some no name Seam kid got killed in the bloodbath to provide the District with "honour".

The escort stepped out on the stage, a bright smile appearing on their face. It was almost a slap in the face, seeing such a well dressed human anticipating the death of several teenagers with a smile. His fists clenched, turning white at the knuckles. He would kill to punch the smile right off of that goddamn escort's face and maybe steal that gold watch that slid loosely on their well-fed wrist as well. It would make a few bucks on the black market, for sure. It would accompany well with the wallet he stole from an old man earlier on in the day, too.

His eyes shifted from corral to corral. They were all just a farm of teenagers, that would all eventually be auctioned off to the slaughterhouse of the Capitol in exchange for the basics necessities in life. The Peacekeepers kept the troubled animals like himself in line. Meanwhile the Capitol waved a slab of meat over their hands and laughed as the dogs of the lower Districts fought over them until they reached their eventual endings of their sad, beggar lives.

"Who will volunteer as tribute, for the honour and glory of their district?" The escort asked, his lips pursed in anticipation. Affron darted his eyes around the crowd, looking for any signs of potential volunteers. Crickets echoed through the Square. No one was stupid enough to take on the role of Capitol suicide.

"I volunteer!"

Except that kid.

Wait, I know that kid.

Fuck. That's Sage.

Affron's eyes bulged as his only friend approached the stage. His stomach took a loop as if he were just punched in the gut. What the fuck. What the actual fuck was he doing? His head pounded at the realization of what was happening. He would die! Sage wasn't as near as street smart as he was, and Afffron wasn't even confident in his own ability to survive in a Hunger Games. His lungs drowned in hyperventilation. His gut pained and he felt the urge to throw up all over the other seventeen year olds in his pen.

Sage wasn't giving up on himself. He was not dying. Affron would be sure of it. Even if it meant his own death.

The blond boy gulped before pursing his lips. His knuckles grinded together before impulsively shooting up his hand with the speed of a bullet. "Fucking hell, I can't believe I'm doing this..." he muttered to himself, loudly enough that the poor unfortunate kids surrounding him would hear. "Fuck, I volunteer!"

He lowered his eyes to the ground, avoiding the stares of the boys and girls around him. He let out a breathe of air that plagued his lungs with guilt and passiveness. He could almost feel the sigh of relief the Square left when they discovered two boys had volunteered. Affron could pretend that his motives behind volunteering were for the district... but his only true motive was to protect Sage. The boy would not survive on his own.

A step toward the stage. Two peacekeepers escorting him to the stage. A sullen and guilty look towards his district partner and best friend. A pang of regret pounding through his head. A drive to keep Sage alive.

Affron Williams was one of the District 12 males attending the Hunger Games.

Fuck.

Why did he do this again?
