gets taken from your hand
Outstretched hands dug into the sand as blue eyes locked on the sky watching red and purple clouds slowly creep by. A gentle morning breeze floated through the air as the sun slowly peaked above the horizon. Waves roared each time they crashed against the shore.
This was the perfect morning.
It was almost a ritual. Every single morning Typherius journeyed from his tiny room in a big fancy house through the district until arriving at the abandon beach. Most were sleeping during the early hours, and right now the temperature was dropping. Winter had come, and the wind carrying from the ocean chilled the air slightly, but it was never cold enough. Beads of sweat would mix with droplets of water rolling down the side of his face. But this morning was different.
Birds chirped in the sky, and the occasional seagull swooped down sweeping a fish into its powerful beak. Sometimes he wondered what it was like carrying something so fragile for the rest of his family to eat. Food came easy, yet he worked for it every single day. Sometimes Ty ventured into the ocean on his tiny rowboat with a fishing net and pole, yet he never caught much since the boat was tiny. Too much weight would make it sink, and that was something he wanted to avoid.
Sometimes the water scared him especially when the waves grew taller.
The tsunami happened years ago, yet the effects still lingered. Scars covered his torso arms and legs, and stories lingered behind the scars, but Typherius never told a soul. It was his story, and nobody else needed to know what happened. It was the day he nearly died, but by some sort of miracle, he survived.
Rays of the rising sun glistened from the blue water reflecting into his eyes. Soon people would come. Soon the children would run about with buckets and spades ready to make castles of sand. But like the rest of the world, they only came crashing down the moment the water reached them. It showed the powerful destruction of the world. Earthly items were fragile, and had no meaning since they were capable of being taken away.
Typherius pushed himself into a seated position before looking around.
Being alone was peaceful, but sometimes he needed a friend. Someone that would care for him, yet most of his life people judged him and belittled him for the way he believed. A private life was growing old, but right now it didn't matter.
Soon he was standing, and with each step the sand squished between his toes. When he was just a kid, he journeyed here so many times -
What I would do to have that innocent life again.
Tucking his hands into his pockets, he waded through the water. Soft mud caked against the bottom of his feet. Waves pushed at his legs trying to knock them over. Perhaps it was a day worthy of jumping from one of the cliffs extended high in the sky, or maybe it was a day to collect something to call his own. He yearned for the exhilarating fall when he became a bird spreading his wings before stepping off a cliff.
But he wouldn't do it alone. It was much too risky.
A heavy sigh left his chest as he reached down on the ground collecting a little shell. Something so small was so beautiful.
Maybe life is beautiful. Maybe it's more than it seems.
