Since birth it has felt this way, as though a chunk of me has been missing - correction, a multitude of chunks. Like I’m a mere piece of a puzzle, permanently longing for the completion of the picture, while the other pieces are beyond lost from my grasp. For clarification, since birth I’ve been abandoned to endure this baffling life on my own - left curious to the heritage that crafts my genetics.
Did my Mother or Father have the glistening brunette locks that frame my face so delicately? Maybe my Father provided the couple of blonde streaks that grace my hair, while Mother gave the straightness of it’s volume? Do I have Siblings who share the same glistening eyes of a hazel-blue complexion? Did one of my Grandmothers curse me with the chunkiness of my small nose? Does another relative also contain the innocence of chubby cheeks as I have? Do I have a family of shorties, or am I the tiniest of them all? So many questions that cause my nights to be restless, while no answers even slightly linger to satisfy my wonder.
Loneliness has always consumed me, even as a crowd of a like orphans constantly crowd my every direction. My silence drowns within a sea of chaotic noise. Surely a friend or two loiter nearby to convince me that I’m not as isolated as I believe - but they are not the family I’m convinced I have somewhere out there. Surely my day will come when I’m reunited with this unfamiliar bloodline of mine… one day… hopefully…
