The train station was crowded with district dignitaries and excitable capitolites. While the dignitaries were there for the purpose of journeying back to their homes, the capitolites lingered for one last look at persons from -as some thought - another world. These curiosities, examples of the _high_ end of district society, had been entertained over the past couple days in their glorious home. Now, however, they were to be shipped back to where they came from while the mayors and victors remained for a final celebration.
The trains were fully stocked once more, supplied with all of the delicacies that had been sampled over the past fourty-eight hours. Televisions were tuned into the discussion of the upcoming event at the President's Mansion, reporters and television personalities commenting on who appeared and what might be happening over the course of the day.
Alcohol of all kinds was available, but champagne was especially prevalent. It was a celebration, after all. There were some last couple hours to mingle before the trains must be boarded and the district dignitaries required to be homeward bound.
Perhaps leaving isn't all bad. While the spreads of food and drink were lavish, and the spotlight of attention might be thrilling for a bit, there also is the unsettling feeling of always being on display. Like pets, you were dragged around the capitol to be stared at and evaluated. Additionally, the wild manners of dress, the somewhat gaudy jewelry, and the vivid makeup all leave you almost feeling drab in comparison. Perhaps they even leave you longing for the comparatively dull atmosphere of your home district.
