KAI PIERCE

His feet sinked into the sand as soon as he stepped on dry land, drips of water rolling down his body. The scent of seaweed and salt were mixed in his hair, hands trying to fix the locks in place. It was a fine day today, even after the verbal fight he had to have with a client today. A long story which was almost out of his mind, burried somewhere deep into the ocean behind him.

The tranquility of the waves clashing against the nearby cliffs and the pure freedom he felt when around the see -- few people could bring him to that state of appreciation. It was a wildfire in his head, usually, but now that fire was extinguished and only peace could be found in his entire being.

Kai walked a bit and sat down, resting his weight on his hands as he burried them deep into the soft sand. It took him a minure or two and his eyes already started closing as if the view before him had compelled him to rest just for a minute.

♚ The golden locks of hair that I possess remind me of the sandy beaches in the District I call home. They tumble down my back in waves, just like the water's waves that come carelessly crashing against the shore. As my gaze meets the mirror in front of me, I run a brush through my hair, making sure that each strand is in place. Of course, once my swim today has concluded, it will no longer be as perfect as I desire. Regardless, I still put in just as much effort as I normally would in making myself appear as perfectly pristine as possible.

Leaving my home that morning, I'm adorned in my swimsuit, covered by a loose-fitting dress of vibrant colors. My mindless meandering to the beach brings me to the edge of the water. Dropping the straps of my dress, I shed what had once been covering the swimsuit underneath. Then, I plunge into the ocean's wonderfully welcoming waves, allowing it to submerge my body completely for a moment or two. When my head emerges from beneath the water, things seem to have calmed. The rough sea seems to have toned down its harshness just a bit, now just gently crashing against the shore.

Swimming about like one of the fictitious creatures that children hear about in storybooks- a mermaid- I feel pure bliss. When I'm in the grasp of the sea, moving about at its mercy with only a little bit of my own control, I feel at peace. It's a wonderful feeling, being in the water. Its foam licks my skin and its cool temperature puts me at ease. I always feel such relief as soon as I enter the arms of the ocean. Being in the water has always been one of my favorite pastimes, and it's the best way for me to distract myself from any stress in my life.

Once I make my way out of the water and onto the shore once more, I pick up my dress. I don't slip it over my wet swimsuit quite yet, but rather carry it along with me as I go over to sit in the sand. Before I allow the warm sand to comfort more of my body than just my feet, however, I spot someone I recognize. A good friend of mine, Kai Pierce, is relaxing on the sandy shore, soaking in the sun. We'd known each other for a while, and I often open up to him with what I'm thinking. He's always there for me and is such a good listener when he needs to be. I wish I knew more people like him, but I suppose it's always possible that he's the only person like that, other than myself.

As a moment passes, my mind makes the decision to approach him. Besides, what type of friend would I be, just ignoring those that I care about? My feet carry me across the hot sand in the direction of where my friend is relishing in relaxation. Gently, I take a seat next to him and speak kindly.

"Kai, it's good to see you." I say this to him with kindness in my voice's tone. I give a slight smile when I say these words, too. Now, I'm just hoping I haven't startled him by speaking so suddenly.

Trust was a fragile thing. It came and it went away as if it was just a visitor who stole from you and then ran away with a malicious smile on its lips. He never really trusted many people. It was as if he had some kind of lenses which made him see who was fake and not. Call it overdramatising but it was his defence mechanism and it worked splendidly. Kai much more preferred the company of his own self and the sea, especially at night. The screaming voice of his father was enough of an annoyance, he needn't other people nagging at him for their mundane problems which they should keep to themselves most of the time.

Footsteps. A mellow, sweet voice. Interruption, but a welcomed one.

Sabrina was next to him, Kai realised, and while he would usually greet the next person with a cold expression, in this case he twitched the corners of his lips up forming a smile. Their friendship ( if you so may call it ) was something more. He couldn't explain it but it startled him on the inside. He had felt something warmer about the girl, something he couldn't quite put his finger on yet and uncertainty usually made him nervous. The duo's trust was built upon listening and talking. She was one of the very few exceptional people that Kai let close to himself especially on an emotional level.

"Yeah, good to see you too," his voice cracked, eyes blinking twice as he looked up and got blinded by the sun ( or was it her? ). It was as if the kindness burried deep inside him leaked like a waterfall when he was around Sabrina, something he was not quite used to. "I see you already went for a swim, so one hang out activity is scratched from the list." he smirked, "So that leaves you with a moody, shit-talking Kai. Fun." The boy turned his body to the side, facing her and resting his weight on his entire arm now half laying on the soft sand beneath him.

"How are we today?"

♚ When I had made my way over to my good friend Kai Pierce and approached him without warning, he didn't seem as if he were too off put by it all, which was a positive thing for the both of us, I suppose. He had greeted me in as kind of a way as I had greeted him. His usual slight sarcasm surfaced with his next comment, stating that, since I'd already gone swimming, that was one less thing that we could do, and therefore, I'd be left with 'a moody, shit-talking Kai,' as he called it. I laughed a bit at this comment as the boy turned to lie on his side, propping himself up with his arm.

He asked how things were, and I gave him a smile. All the while, my hands were behind me as I held myself up in the sand. Although, the wetness of the sand caused my hands to sink into it a bit, and I therefore moved into the same position that Kai was in, but instead of facing in the same direction that he was, I was looking at him. He was nice to look at, in my opinion, so I certainly didn't mind. I found the boy attractive, but I wasn't going to just straight up tell him that. At least, not in that moment. It didn't quite seem to be the time to do so just yet.

"I'm doing alright," I told him. "My sister Ariana and I have been spending a lot of time together, which is nice, but she seems to be a bit out of it recently, like something's bothering her." I told him this with a slight tone of concern in my voice. "Maybe it's the Games that are bothering her. She's never been all too fond of them." I paused for a moment before I continued speaking, simply looking into Kai's eyes before I caught myself, not wanting to make it awkward, and looked away for a moment.

"I just get worried about her, but I'm doing pretty well myself. What about you?" I asked him. I knew that this was just a rather basic conversation, not really talking about much of anything special, but I hoped it would go somewhere. Our conversations always seemed to, after all. Maybe at some point I could throw a curve ball into the conversation to change things up a little bit here and there.

"I hope you've been doing well. Have you been keeping up with the Games at all?" I asked him this, hoping that I could make our conversation a bit more interesting. Although, there was always the chance that this conversation was a little more one-sided, as I was doing a lot of the talking in that moment. I started to wonder if I was annoying him, and if I should just shut my mouth for the time being. Therefore, I didn't say anything else quite yet and waited for him to speak to me instead. I suppose that I get quite carried away in conversation when I talk to someone that I like, whether I like them romantically or just as a really good friend. It doesn't quite matter, as long as I'm comfortable with the person, a lot of words can be expected to emerge from my lips.
