I throw open the door and race after her in the streets. Maybe she knows, I think, because it's too much of a coincidence for her to be restless these days. She used to be Neela's cat, after all. Even if only for a few days. Even if it was years ago.
Satin sneezed and pushed the little ball of tabby orange fur at me. "Can you believe it? My idiot little sister brought this home the other day. Said she found it on the streets and wants it as a pet."
"I guess it's kind of cute."
"Well, that's all it's good for. We can't have an animal peeing around the house and tearing up everything. Besides, I'm allergic, and so is Ma."
"So you want me to have her? It is a her, right?"
"Hell if I know. Neela's been paranoid all week that I'm gonna go and drown it or something. She really needs to lighten up, it's not like I'm some sort of evil fairytale sister."
I laughed and picked up the squirming bundle. "Heh, I know, right? Thanks for remembering when I told you I wanted a kitten."
"Excuse me - pardon me -"
She's faster than I am, darting into the crowd of people in the Town Square - their eyes are all glued to the screen, watching Stitch's fight.
"Sorry -"
I push my way through, following the flash of orange darting into the alley, turning the corner -
There's a loud MEOW just behind the wall, and when I catch up with them I see she's crashed into a hapless girl walking down the alley.
