a silver tongue with slurs laced in venom. a stone heart, molded by the mother you wished you had. a stern hand smacks porcelain white skin, a bruise against your face that took its time to heal. she said it was your fault papa wasn't with her anymore. as a child tears would swell up in your dark brown eyes, threatening to fall. now it bounces off.

you are encased in a mirror, hurtful comments meant to demean your confidence slide off. it doesn't stop poison that spews from your lips though.

the battlefield is your true home. metal on metal, skin against skin. mother tried to bruise and hurt you, but in the end she made a warrior.

you've fought plenty of people. jet-black hair, sword in hand. the cling of steel against steel vibrates itself throughout your body. the boy faces you, a face of anger. but you don't see his face for long, it is quickly replaced by your mother's.

and that's when you fight your hardest.

because you are steel.
