You Have To Be Productive {Open to all}

Daniel wandered aimlessly around the training gym. He was usually watching the tributes at the certain stations. At the sword fighting station he watched a tribute swing their sword at the dummy. Before he even came out of the backstroke Daniel knew he would miss. It's an easy game of numbers.
You can apply numbers to anything, or at least Daniel could. He watched the arc of the blade miss the dummy and stick into the bright blue mats on the floor.
Daniel past that station and noticed the First Aid table, that was something a bit trickier. You still used numbers but you couldn't calculate what herb to use to treat a wound. Decatur decided to approach the table as a small girl stepped up to it before him. The girl seemed like a midget to him. Although he is usually taller than most people, standing over 6 feet tall, this girl was below average i the height department.
Daniel stepped up to the girl's right, picking up a roll of bandages, trying to calculate how long the roll must be.
He certainly wasn't going to talk first, Daniel wasn't that kind of person. He could only hope the girl started a conversation, hopefully one about an alliance. Daniel didn't have one yet and for at least the first part of the Games you needed a partner. How else would you get out of the Bloodbath with anything more than dirt?

Daniel turned when the girl spoke. The hardest part was over now.
"Yeah," Was Daniel's brief answer. He was a man of few words.
Then the girl introduced herself. Alba Hache, District 4.
"Daniel Decatur, 10," Daniel said, setting down the bandages, which he estimated to be about 3 feet long, and put out his hand to shake.
Daniel examined the girl. The first thought that came to mind was that she was, in fact, short. However that could be useful. What an odd alliance they would look like, that is if they became an alliance.
Although Alba was from District 4 she was obviously not a Career. No one else seemed to have talked with her and Daniel seized this opportunity.
He could end up with an ally, and who knows? They might even be able to outlive the Careers! No- he can't think like that. Eventually one of them would have to be offed, he can't get to attached.
Daniel had a history of trying to stop the inevitable.

Daniel liked her handshake, it was meaningful and not half hearted. It said a lot about her character, however afterwards she had the slightest look of uncertainty.
Alba started unraveling the bandages and asked Daniel if he'd been to any stations.
"No," He wanted to say more but cut it off. You don't go around telling everyone everything. Instead he nodded at the bandages. "There's 3 feet of the stuff, however it is a little thin. Good for wrapping an arm or an ankle but not enough for a head wound."
He was trying to show his usefulness. Daniel didn't want to be abandoned after coming this far. He'd show off just enough to make him look good but not enough to give away every skill he had in his arsenal.

Daniel noted that Alba was using the same strategy he was: Give a little, get a little. He hadn't been to the Fire Station, he hadn't been to any except First Aid.
Daniel looked over his shoulder at the Fire station where a group of tributes slaved over their flint and steel trying to get some sparks.
"Basic Physics," Daniel mumbled without going into detail. It was all math, the tribute could probably think up a formula during the Games if he had to.
Daniel decided that Alba would be a valuable ally. In District 4 the tributes were always strong and most of the time had enough common sense to make it far. For Example, last Games. Their female tribute in the 54th Games, Windy Mathers, was an excellent example of what a tribute should be. [ Sorry couldn't resist ]
Daniel made a final decision in his head that he wanted Alba as an ally. However that meant that he had to know her well enough to work with but not enough to be traumatized by her death. Of course the two came hand in hand so no matter how hard Decatur tried, he would still be affected.
Who knows? He might even go crazy like previous tributes. That would surely give the Capitol a show.
"What do you think the Arena will be like?" Daniel said, trying to make more small talk even though he was horrible at it.

Daniel silently edged to the adjacent side of the table to make room for the newcomer. From his spot he examined her. From her stance and her tone of voice it seemed like she was merely making small talk while at the station.
When the girl finally said her name, Daniel scowled at the package of pills he had been inspecting. Cherry? What kind of a name is that? In District 10 they made proper names for their children, or at least that's what Daniel thought.
Fiddling with the First Aid kit he listened to Alba and Cherry talk. You could learn a lot of things about a person by just watching.
