At first, there was the strange feeling of darkness and quiet with a quiet beep growing louder. Might be buzzing in your ears. You focus on your breathing and wait patiently for what is to come, but the sound grows louder until your eyelashes flutter slightly. And naturally, the first thought you have is:
He couldn't do it, after all.
Maybe he thought it was over, just like you, and left you on the ground, gravely injured. And now you have to figure out what to do next, how to crawl away from the cliff, how to hide... You are scared to open your eyes because you are afraid of being alone. But what if Shy is still sitting there? After everything you've been through... Maybe you'll both just hug, cry some more and go into hiding together. And wait till it's over. You are not a threat to anybody in that arena anymore and you are happy about that because now you can't imagine yourself giving everything up that easily again, it is way too terrifying. But when you start opening your eyes slowly the light that fills them is nothing like sunlight - it is something strangely electrical and blinding. You blink and see a face above you which you cannot see properly at first...
"Mama?"
It is not your mother, it is someone who is absolutely unfamiliar to you... You don't understand... Something about the Capitol (you hate that word), about a nurse (Is this a hospital? But why? Only one lives, what happened to Shy?), about ...crop rate?... (what in Panem is that supposed to mean?) There is a strange feeling in your arm as the weird someone bends down and their fingers brush your skin... You bounce upwards, knocking the person down with one professional strike (thanks capitol training?) and rush forward - you don't know where you're about to flee, anywhere as far from here as possible. You scream the first name that pops up in your memory with the pages of a tearful diary:
"Faux!"
Where is Shy, where am I?
You are blinded by confusion and fear for your ally's fate, scared of the hurried steps behind your back.
"Fiona!"
Help, help, help, save Shy, must save Shy.
