80th Games Final Announcement from President Snow

“Good afternoon, citizens of Panem. I’m speaking to you directly tonight from the Training Center in the Capitol. We are about to debut a new area of this famous building, designed especially for these Games. I welcome you all to: The Vault!”

The camera zooms out from the President’s face. At first, the background may seem a bit familiar to fans of the Games. Yes, there’s the Gamemakers’ thrones, the long feast table, the electrified partition between the GMs and the tributes. Except, as the camera zooms over the heads of Glamour Kinkade and Vepar Azazel, it’s quickly clear that this is not the weapons room, where a week ago the tributes were weighed and found wanting. This is somewhere else - somewhere new.

The drone camera ghosts through the security barriers, diving into the room. There’s simple tables and chairs, a glimpse of twenty-three cots, and then the camera swivels to take in the absolutely gigantic IMAX screen to see - itself. The screen displays the camera’s feed, a ripple shuddering.

The ticker at the bottom of the screen, which displayed the tributes’ faces in grey, suddenly returns to full color.

The camera pans down, identifying each of the fallen tributes in the Vault. Some watch the IMAX. Some feast on decadent dishes. Some stare off morosely. Some appear to be plotting.

There’s a commotion in the upper left-hand quadrant. The camera brings the viewers into a surgical ward, where the last tribute to fall has just been wheeled in. The lens is not shy about focusing on the tribute’s bloody face as surgeons set to work.

Meanwhile, the President begins to speak again. “By now, the cleverest among you have figured out our little twist. The tributes of the 80th Games have been revived by the most skilled of physicians. Many of them still need medical care, and thus will be confined to this Vault until after the Victor Presentation, which will occur tomorrow evening. I think we are very much looking forward to seeing how Anatalia Morrisen is doing.”

The camera flies slowly out of the Vault as the President explains the twist. It comes to rest with the President’s face perfectly in view, the Gamemakers mere shadows flanking him.

“At that time, the other tributes will be released into their care of their district mentors and escorts, and in two days, they will all board a train back to their respective districts. I do hope you have all enjoyed these Games as much as I have. And I’ll see you tomorrow as we celebrate the accomplishments of our newest Victor Anatalia Morrisen.”

The ticker at the bottom of the screen loops around, starting again with Faux Rhodes. It goes on and on, depicting the new lives of the twenty-four living tributes on the 80th Quell Games.
