Their time outside of the arena was dwindling, surely as the gentle summer sunset in the Capitol. He wasn't sentimental about many things, but it seemed right to track the end of days. Soon the night sky would be alight with a banner of faces, faces that he was only just now coming to know. He might as well enjoy the pinks and oranges without the taint of lethal black. Especially since had a plan.

He'd left a note on Harper's bed, hand written and nearly illegible. Meet me on the rooftop at 7:30. Important Games planning. Necessary.

It was a rouse. Not his best. Not his worse. But he needed to see her, alone, just once before the tick tock of the countdown ruled them. He would lie to her.

He would do a lot worse than that.

When the heavy emergency door opened onto the rooftop, Leet turned around. He hadn't been able to find any fresh flowers, so instead he held a bouquet of arrows, their tips painted pastel pink, purple and blue from the Camo station. He'd tied them off with a rough line of rope from the Fishing stations and bowed his head. "I brought you here under false assumptions." He lifted his head slowly, forced himself to look directly into the ocean of her eyes. "I don't want to talk about the Games. I want to talk about us."

Exhaustion wore itself mostly in her wrists, aching and groaning from hours upon hours of flinging knives toward targets. The moment she'd gotten to her room, she'd sat in the middle of her floor with a pair of elastic bandages. Nevermind if they were hurting; she'd learned how to fight through the pain. But if there was any swelling, her wrists would've been seen as a weakness to anyone who noticed them. She used her teeth to tie the bandages off, mocking herself as a boxer in the floor-length mirror before the note on her bed caught her eye.

"Meet me on the rooftop at 7:30. Important Games planning. Necessary."

She didn't need to wonder whose the note was; Annie and Leon had probably taken classes to have neat penmanship, and Harper had squinted and turned her head sideways on each word just to understand what they said.

It came as no surprise when the elevator doors opened and she saw Elite leaning against the ledge. Harper tried to keep her hands folded behind her as she walked toward him, courteous smile stretched from cheek to cheek.

"I brought you here under false assumptions."

She noticed, for the first time, a bouquet of pastel arrows in his hand and she raised an eyebrow in intrigue.

"I don't want to talk about the Games. I want to talk about us."

She was silent for a moment as she searched for a way to handle this. Bouquet. Rooftop. Him. Her. Us. The nervous chuckle escaped her before she could stop it; she leaned next to him against the ledge.

"We've already talked about it. If we want to make it further together, meat shields are the best option." Fayre and Eos both flashed across her mind; she felt bad for reducing them to something so callous. Something for her to use and move on.

"You aren't freaking out, are you?" her eyes flitted down to the arrows and she cleared her throat, "I'll, uh, need my friend on his best game when we get into that arena. Okay?"
