oh this little light o' mine // rabbit vs mutts

You look up at the burlap and straw man, eyes wide and watchful, so absorbed in his empty gaze that you seldom notice the sun sinking below the horizon and you do not stir from your position, on your knees staring up at the watchful scarecrow, worshipping the silence that engulfs you, not even when out the corner of your eyes you think you see someone moving through the long grass with a pumpkin trotting at their heels. It is only when the darkness becomes so heavy around you that you can no longer even see the burlap man anymore do you stir from you trance.

Blinking, you only see darkness for a few moments. There is something familiar about the darkness around you but it is not something you find a comfort- you feel your heart quickening within your chest as you shakily rise to your feet, feeling around you in the darkness for the burlap man, the curved blade in your other hand as you begin to blindly lead yourself through void around you. You hum, words desperate to escape your lips but as one threaten to break through you subdue it, fearful of what it might bring to you. There are dangers in the darkness, you cannot see them but you feel the hairs on the back of your neck prickle to attention at every small sound around you.

A small cry escapes your lips as a deep beeping fills the hollow air around you and as you look around, weilding your weapon blindly your eyes are drawn to a sudden glow of light. Your eyes glisten with curiosity, as from the heavens sinks a bright, glistening light. Hesatantly you move towards it, through the grass that is illuminated by the golden light cast in a halo. So enchanted, you barely notice the second light hovering just out of the corner of your eye. You drop the curved blade at your feet as you reach out and catch the small light and something metalic and golden.

The parachute collapses as you take hold of it, grasping it excitedly in your hands and it takes you a moment for your brain to register that what the items are you grasp in your hands. The light, golden and bright, a dull glass bulb of glass encasing some strange bright golden gem, glittering within a gilded cage of rusting metal. Attached, is a pair of golden pair of scissors, the blade sharp and glittering in the lantern light. Your lips part into a smile, as you observe the lantern, grasped in your hands.

It is only as you turn, spinning on your tip toes, dancing with the golden light, do you notice the second. Smaller, less distant, dancing in the dark a few feet before you. Your grin widens, delicately placing the lantern at your feet and a small, childish giggle spills from your lip as you skip forward, hands out stretched towards the second golden light. As you tread closer, you quickly realise that the little golden light, swirling in an unseen breeze is a bug. And with your face scrunched in determination, you clap yours hands together around it to put it out.
