They've compared me to him countless times – Vargen Forrester – my brother who they all swelled with pride for.

All the wolf knows is hunger.

All the wolf is, is an insatiable, starved beast whose mouth is forever slavering at its edges. It kills you greedily, for your flesh and bones, for the feast your body prizes it with after you are dead.

Then there is the fox, who is sated by berries and grapes. The fox doesn’t kill you so that it can devour you after – it doesn’t have the same hunger as the wolf.

The fox kills you because it wants to.
