"Because," Saffron insisted, adjusting Quinn's dress for the fourth time that evening, "it's her birthday."

"We didn't throw me a dinner for my birthday" huffed back her daughter, cranky as usual.

Saffron grinned and stood up, dusting off her pants. "You haven't been twenty-one yet, sweetheart. We threw you a great birthday, remember? With the horses."

"With the horses..." Quinn trailed off, nodding absent-mindedly and pushing dark bangs out of her eyes.

What Saffron had told Mace. that she wouldn't repeat in front of her daughter, was that she was more concerned over the fact that Annie wouldn't get to celebrate her birthday at all. It was all third-hand rumour she had half a brain not to trust, but the whispers about Annie's wickedly disappointed father only made Saffron feel more sympathy for the Victor from Four. She'd taken a liking to the young ones, loving them from a distance - but a girl only turned 21 once, and Saffron would do just about near anything to make sure Annie had a nice evening.

Blue rushed in a few moments later, taking Quinn by the hand and gesturing for the elaborate dining room on the Tenth floor of the training center. "Miss Annie has arrived," he gushed, clearly excited to have a change of victors in his company for once. "Shall we let her in?"

"Duh..." replied Quinn, to which Saffron shot her seven year old a look. That only made the little girl giggle, tugging at Blue's hand to follow her.

Sighing, the victor strolled toward the apartment doors and grinned - if a little too forcefully - as the door opened.

"Annie!" she beamed, engulfing the other victor in a hug. "Happy Birthday!"

It had been weird being here, the capitol of all places. She thought she would spend most of her birth month just at home enjoying the view of the ocean. After all, it was right outside of her house. She could go there anytime, and she could spend it with whoever she wanted if she was being honest. It was her own oasis, one that she had to spill blood for, but at this point, she has come to terms with it.

Anatalia was once a murderer turned martyr turned blasphemous. Now she is just trying to live.

So getting out of four was probably a good choice today. Saffron told her where to go, and she was, and always would be appreciative of her for being so kind to her. Most of the victors still treated Annie like she was the spawn of death, and it took Annie a while to get over that. She was more than her arena, or her quell twist, or what she had to do to get where she was.

She was just a girl who was now trying to live her life without any regrets. It would probably take years for people to understand that.

So she was thankful that Saffron had already done that.

And so she knocked on the door, and she heard a little rumbling behind the door, if Annie had to guess, Saffron also had Mace and their children there too. Maybe if she was lucky she would see Enzo too, but she didn’t hold her breath. The moment the door opened, Annie was embraced in a hug. ”Thank you Saffron.” she said with a joyful inflection in her voice. ”Really and truly. Thank you.” a couple tears already forming down her face. ”Youre too kind to me.”
