She dreams that she is a sailor escaping toward her namesake, hunting down the rising sun in the east. She dreams that she is a knight in shining armor, saving some member of a royal family from the foul clutches of their scheming uncle. She dreams that she is a beautiful young author, secluded away from the world in a cottage in the middle of the woods with tall glass ceilings and greenery all around. She dreams that she is an adventurer, a fighter, a genius, a heart-breaker.

Her reality is very different. Her parents died before she could commit anything about them to memory, their records lost to a fire or an explosion or poor bookkeeping. The excuse changes every time she asks. She imagines that they loved her very much, as she supposes all orphans do, but were ripped away from her by some horrific illness. Ever since then she's alternated between homes that try to make her useful by putting her to work and orphanages where her vivid imagination seems to make her a good deal of enemies.

At sixteen one would have expected that she would begin to let go of her fantasies, but she clings to them more than ever. In her mind she can be anything or anyone that she wants. She isn't confined to the identity of "orphan", isn't defined by the past she didn't choose. Temperamental but fiercely loyal, her imagination is accompanied by deep empathy and a strong sense of justice. She loves people and will always fight for them, even though the world has shown that it is rarely willing to fight for her.
