There’s a witch in the woods.
When you want a miracle to be performed, you always have to trust a witch. But, the truth is, it isn’t even witchcraft anyways—he is simply deft at knowing what flowers can break a fever and what fruits can keep away pests from the crops, but most assume it is. And, he let the assumptions run astray. He dresses himself in black coats and hang crystals around his neck. He quietly listens to the stories about their deceased ones as he cuts herbs and says some eerie things at the end like, “there are skeletons in your closet”, “you believe he’s passed?”, “he knows everything.”
Call him a fraud, but at least he gets paid; at least they revered him.
That’s all an orphan like him needs to survive—
pouches of silver coins and a hard-won reputation.
That’s why he chose the name ‘Salem’.
