i spend my time either in trees or cutting them down. they provide security and safety where little is found, high above the rooftops of the world around me.

i need to use my time wisely, you can't climb tree stumps. it seems like there's more and more of them these days, and it feels as if no one is noticing. the forest is being destroyed, obliterated so that the capitol can exploit it's resources.

through a blurry lens, i can see in my memory my mother standing over me at night, telling me stories about what would happen if we don't respect the earth, and most importantly, our forest.

i tried telling people in school what my mother told me: we need to slow our deforesting, we need to plant more trees than we cut. the other students responded with a mixture of furrowed eyebrows and shared glances ~~but their eyes never met my blue ones~~. this isn't what the capitol wants us to think. this isn't what they want us to know so that we will continue to be dependent on them and not diversify what we do in this drab district and stay dependent on them for meager food and water supplies. ~~what sort of economy could even operate in a district with one industry, it's why we're all poor, i guess~~

i've started by myself, to try and fix the problems the capitol caused before it's too late. i try to replant fallen seeds for the towering trees in the wake of the lumberjacks' tidal wave of destruction. it's not enough, the new trees will take too long to grow and we're cutting down our old ones too fast.

district seven's forests are dying, and i need to try my best to save them before it's too late.
