many moons pass overhead before you think of welcoming anyone else in.

you pretend you haven't counted all thirty-seven of them, but time has passed into pisces and you know yourself better. know you can't fight the overflowing of emotions bursting out of your chest every time the wind so much as blows a stray hair across your neck. know she's not coming back, she's never coming back, and she's left you here in this miserable overhyped tree farm. she loves the trees - loved the trees, you correct yourself, and rustle a cigarette out from behind your ear and light it faster than a zenith.

she's long gone.

you tell yourself this over and over and over.

she's long gone, and she's not coming back, and you know this. you watch the thirty-eighth moon rise and you curse her beautiful name. 

"come in," you call. timid feet shuffle in through the swaying strips of multicolor fabric you cut and hung from the doorway. another white girl sits across from you, her face red with rum and cheeks full of laughter.

"what brings you, angel?"

she giggles - you called it - and tells you of her boy troubles. you lay out her cards and tell her exactly what she wants to hear, and she pays you before traipsing back through the doorway.

seventy-three moons and no one has since entered your temple.
