I'd Rather Be Oblivious // [Abandon/Pierre blitz]

P I E R R E

Thousands upon thousands of piles of screwed up speeches pilled up besides Pierre. So many that the piles reach the top of his greying head. All he can do is smash his fists against the delicate table that has endured so many of his hidden rages, even now in a dream. An empty bottle of whiskey…no three! Piled up besides him. Surely this is a dream, no man can drink such strong liquor by himself.

Something cold hits his face, another flush of the strong stuff? No, he is brought to life by the sudden sight of his wife and the young light of the morning blaring through the opened curtains of his bedrooms. He covers his eyes as soon as the light hits him, and his palms are met by a very wet face. Pierre pushes his upper body up, sitting up with his feet dangling at the edge of the bed. ”Good morning.” A groan follows his greeting as he continues to rub his eyes and face, not exactly feeling awake for the day ahead.

”This speech needs to be different from the rest, I suppose I turned to the hard tipple for inspiration.” It was going to happen one day, his little secret drinking hobby getting out. Maybe Abi has always known. ”It won’t happen again.”

P I E R R E

It is not long before it hits him, the sudden heaviness of his head and the sickly ache within his stomach. Age will does not help with the hangovers; he remembers a time in his twenties where they used to be a breeze. Growing old really does come with so many factors. Aching joints, wrinkles under his eyes and a temperament that is becoming a little harder to control. Ripred, he better not turn into a grumpy old man.

Pierre accepts the tablet that hits his palm, throwing it to the back of his throat, followed by the shot of water. It does not taste as great as the whiskey last night but at least it is does not burn his throat.

His eyes follow Abi as she sits next to him, her words enough to soothe the pressures of delivering a few words to an audience of thousands. He gently takes Abi’s hand that went on the tour from his chest to his temple. A smile breaking across his sorry looking face as he pulls his wife close to him. ”I really do not know what I would do without you. You really have had to deal with so much. Assure me again, am I doing the right thing?” It is the question he should have asked more often ten years ago.
