I'm here for some reason.

My leg bounces on the waiting room chair and I question why again. It'd be much easier for me to just hire help or something but I'm loath to admit that I've reached my capacity. I can't bear turning away patients either. The fact is though that I've had far too many sleepless nights fueled by coffee lately. There's only so many a girl can help before it becomes too much and you know that there's a problem when even the wealthy are afraid to go near Nine's hospital.

So, with nowhere left to turn, I've found myself outside the Electorate's office in Nine's City Hall. The place is crawling with Peacekeepers, so essentially it's the worst place for a deserter like me. Sometimes a girl has to do what a girl's got to do. There's been enough buzz about this new candidate that I feel like she could help me and my cause, which is at its core just keeping people alive.

It's hard enough being a Doctor in a society that deems living unnecessary let alone Nine. This district is on a whole other level.

"She'll see you now," says a girl with a clipboard.

Great, I gather myself again, try and pick up all the indignation that brought me here in the first place and stride into Shiv Irvine's office.

"Miss Irvine, I need to speak with you about Nine's-"

Shit, she's beautiful, what the hell was I saying? I pause in the doorway, my brain having packed its bags and ran out the door after the second pot of coffee I brewed last night.

"About Nine's gross neglect of its health care system."
