Standing before the crowd she smiles, stepping up to the podium. Calypso Hope had never given a public speech before and she was nervous. She hated that she was, wishing that her words would be as smooth as her in-laws. But she knew they wouldn't. Pierre had had ten years to perfect his public speaking, it was no supers that he was great at it, captivating his audience so easily that she felt small beads of sweat begin to form on her fore head.

But she wasn't going to give up.

She was going to give it her best crack.

She could be charming.

"District Eight! How are we all this afternoon?" She laughs lightly, trying to appear confident. "I hope you are all well and I would love to start of by thanking you all for being out here with us today. I can't express just how much I appreciate you all taking the chance to listen to what I have to say. So again thank you.

For those of you who don't know, I'm Calypso Hope, and I'm running to be your mayor for the next term. I wasn't born into the Hope family. As a child I had to fight to get to where I am, and as a woman, I had to fight even harder for my voice to be heard. My childhood was messy, filled with challenges that I know a lot of us have to deal with. With poverty and homelessness. And if I am elected one of my promises will be to work with those in need.

Already I run a small soup kitchen for those looking for a warm meal. Right now its only small, my funds very limited, but I do what I can to make sure that everyone in our home has a chance to go to sleep at night with a a warm belly. I know its not much. But if elected I would put my support behind the need. Put funds into making sure the food reached all those in need. Making sure that shelter is available. That, quite simply, an ear is available for those who need to talk.

I promise that I will make our home the priority. Because without all of you we could not be district eight.
