Sickness, slowly, is eating her alive.

She was diagnosed with stage four cancer — leukemia — only a month ago. Her family is among the less fortunate of District Five, near dirt-poor. Tansy's mother is a powerplant worker, and makes just enough to keep her, her daughter, and grandmother afloat. And her father, she never knew him. He was some young Peacekeeper that Tansy's mother had eyes for. Tansy doesn't know much about him, but she does know that he used to give her mother extra food when he could, and that he was transferred from District Five to Two shortly after Tansy's birth.
