"HEY!" I screech at the top of my lungs upon the sight of Maddie's latest bully. "FAKE-HAZEL! Yeah, I'm talkin' to you!"

She's got that wicked-evil Career grin, the one I hate. It screams of ruthlessness, of a lack of empathy, of thinking you're better than someone else for no good reason. Call me a petty bitch but something about those pretty rich kids make my blood boil. That and the memory of Maddie turning up on my doorstep in tears, blubbering about some girl called Hazel that made me double-take.

Long story short, she thought I'd been spreading rumours about her. As if! Maddie's a little much sometimes but I'd never hurt her feelings. Not intentionally anyway! A few conversations later we'd figured out there was some other girl called Hazel, tall with black hair like me. Looks like those are the only three traits we share, because she's the nastiest kind of person and I'd never want to be like her. God, who else is mistaking me with her? Shit!

"Head you were talking shit about my friends!" I growl, marching right up to her nasty little face and prodding her in the shoulder with a plaster-wrapped finger. "Huh?"

"HUH," the sneer falls from your lips as soon as the contemptuous hey fills the air. Fake-Hazel she snaps, bimbo black hair flailing around in the breeze like she's some model wannabe. She looks weak, annoying and as though the only thing she can do is yell. You're sure that her bark is as pathetic as her bite, the prod to your shoulder is like a tickle.

She's also like, so ugly. Face contorted in anger, spite flying as she growls and howls like she's the only thing in this world that matters. You hate people like her, that try and defend the weak. The weak need to be punished, destroyed and removed from the district. If they just grew up, sucked it up and became stronger you'd have no problem with them.

Like, it's not that hard?

"Shit?" you say, folding your arms over your chest as you raise a questioning eyebrow. "You mean the truth. Just because whoever your friend is sucks, doesn't make it my problem. I'm just doing the world a favour; ridding it of her uselessness."

You step closer, face right in front of hers, eyes narrowed with annoyance. "Not my fault the truth is a bitch, just like I am. Maybe if they just stopped being weak they wouldn't need to go and cry to whoever the fuck you are."

Okay listen - I'm not usually one for violence. I much prefer to talk things out than throw punches like all the jocks in this neighbourhood. We'd be a much more civil bunch if we stopped clobbering each-other, especially in the middle of the District Square. People are looking at us now, tutt-ing disapprovingly or cheering us on. I don't want to buy into their demands of a fight. But something about the way this girl talks just makes me wanna-

My knuckles swing towards her face - guess she tried to block it - because the next thing I know my punch slams into the back of her hand and I'm yelling at the top of my lungs.

"You insecure, nasty, awful creature!" and there's steam coming out of my ears, I'm sure of it, heart beating a thousand times a minute as I readjust my posture to swing again. "Picking on younger kids is just cowardly! Just because you hate yourself doesn't mean you get the right to treat other people like dirt!"

She throws a punch the same way Tommy had before you had snapped his arm in half. It's weak, no power behind it and you put your hand up, blocking the hit with your hand. You roll your eyes, looking at her with a disapproving frown. Maybe she should start working on this girl, did she call herself a career? Because if she did, well, she was fucking useless.

She evens starts yelling, as if the punch she had just thrown wouldn't hurt? As if she was so weak she couldn't handle a little bruise on her hand. Ripred, this district was falling apart. They needed more households like the Hailsham's, where failure meant punishment- true careers, none of this bullshit.

"Darling, you have to be secure in your skill level and talent to walk all over other people." You take a step back, lazily looking away as you nod at the crowd that has started to gather. If they wanted a show, you could give them one.
