After the tournament, I got patched up. I was quite exhausted from it all, and even though I had won my first match, I didn't make it all the way through my second. I was really close, too, but this girl, Sunny, absolutely knocked the wind out of me with her mace as she swung it into my chest. I was afraid that if she'd swung it any harder she would've crushed my chest and killed me, but I was doing okay.

Despite my broken bones and bruised ego, I still was feeling up to mingling with others today. It was the day after the tournament but a lot of people were still hanging around the area where it took place, even today, meaning I hadn't returned to my training camp yet, either. I live there full time, so I don't get out into the District much. I was grateful that Zia and Chiron were letting me stay here a little longer to get to know people.

As I wandered around, crutches helping me move with the cast on my leg and foot, I mingled with a lot of strangers. Eventually, however, I encountered someone I'd met before, which was very unusual for me outside of the camp. I waved at the girl and made my way over to her- Citrine Metz. She'd been my first opponent in the tournament and the only opponent I'd won against.

"Hey! How ya holdin' up?" I asked her cheerily.

Grandma was probably ready to welcome me home with open arms, telling me that it was ok, that it wasn't important. She was ready to tell me more stories about her time fighting as a rebel, about how pointless and stupid these tournaments and games were. That I was still a fighter, and that fighting for the Capitol's enjoyment wouldn't bring me happiness.

But she was wrong. This was important. This is important.

After the tournament ends, I walk outside. Time for the walk of shame back home, to face my mom's face that'll shine with hope until I tell her what had happened. She still believed in me, she still supported me despite grandma's tribulations. Then I hear her coming from behind.

"Hey! How ya holdin' up?"

Turning, I saw that it was the girl who had completely flounced me. If she started gloating I swear to ripred that I was going to scream.

"Could be better," I say, grimacing, "What about you? That second match looked kind of rough." I gesture to her crutches.

Citrine was someone that I hoped wouldn't completely hate me after our match in the tournament. She seemed kind enough, though, so I didn't fear approaching her. Then again, despite my young age, there weren't a lot of people that I feared approaching in general. Some thought I was reckless, but to me, it was just that I just didn't really care all that much.

The girl turned to look at me.

"Could be better," she said to me, "What about you? That second match looked kind of rough." She gestured to the crutches that I was using to support myself. I was pretty banged up, and in the moment, the adrenaline took away from some of the pain, but admittedly, it was starting to get to me now. There was no sense in lying to Citrine, though, so I told her just that.

"Yeah, same here," I explained. "I think adrenaline got the best of me during it all so I didn't feel it as much but it's really starting to take a toll on me now."

I gave a weak smile.

"What've you been up to since the tournament?" I asked her, hoping I could strike up a bit more of a conversation. I'd always been the talkative sort, and I tried to make friends wherever I possibly could. I wasn't sure exactly why I was like that, but I suppose that was just me.
