Where Fleur was once responding to microphone feedback, to footsteps and chipper escorts, she was now cognizant of her own blood pulsing through her veins. A shaky breath in and out. Nothing to hear but her own thoughts.

Fleur wrung her hands as she paced the room, unsure how to rationalize the knot in her stomach. She should be proud. Elated even. She’d done it. She was now a tribute, and a self-made one at that. Yet, as she stared at the walls of her holding room, part of her wished she had stayed on the other side of them.

She whirled around to face the door with a sigh, flopping down into a maroon armchair. At least she’d get to see her family one last time.

The downside would likely be having to explain herself.
