A U R O R A .
I hadn't slept much last night, each time I closed my eyes I saw my death. The last time I died it was at Iden's hands wrapped around my throat. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't do anything under his weight, my arms pinned under his knees. I remember feeling surprised when I realised it was him. I shouldn't have been, our brief moments shared weren't enough to cement a relationship that was strong enough to save me. Just when my heart was about to give out my eyes had sped open, I was upright in bed, clutching at my chest. My heart was pounding so fast, so hard, I could feel it pulsating against the palm of my hand.
That's when I had given up on sleep, and why I found myself curled up on the floor wrapped in a blanket, sipping on hot chocolate, and watching the sunrise from the window that offered the best view over the rousing city. This might be my last chance to watch the sunrise and feel safe, as safe as I could knowing what future awaited me.
Slowly the apartment comes to life, and after a silent breakfast, Jack and I are escorted away and prepared to be transported to our final destination. Flynn stays by my side, and I grasp his hand, holding it tightly as we walked. I still had so much that I needed to say to him, so much I wanted to say to him. The further we walked, the closer it came to say goodbye and I didn't think I was ready for that.
We reached the hanger where an official started to direct me towards one of the hover crafts but I turn my back on her, pulling Flynn into a tight embrace, "thank you for everything you have done over the last couple of weeks." Pulling away I take both his hands in mine, giving him a sad, hopeful, smile. I try to fight the tears that begin to well, but I can't, they roll down my cheeks. "I'll see you soon, okay," my voice breaks and I quickly let him go, turning to hurry into the hovercraft, the official giving me a dirty look.*
The stylist hands me a pair of khaki shorts, and I weave a thick brown belt through the loops, fastening it high on my waist. She then hands me an olive green tank that I tuck into my shorts, the soft pink button-up is fastened into a loose knot. "We want to keep the look cute and innocent," my stylist mumbles, arranging my hair carefully. "Might make someone think twice, attacking a 'little sister' is harder than a stranger." She finishes the look with a bright yellow raincoat and a wide-brimmed hat, tucking folded sunnies into the collar of my shirt.
Time seems to move at a faster pace and before I am ready I am ushered into a tube that felt too small. The door slides shut and I am sealed in. My heart stops for a moment before the ground begins to push me towards the sky. "It's okay Aurora, stay calm, you got this," I whisper to myself, swallowing nervously.
The sky opens up and instantly my eyes seek out Jack and Zane.
