Name: Julian Bryze (pronounced “Breeze”)
16, 17 in Games 41
District/Area: District 2
District/Area: District 2
FC: Oliver StummvollJulian is unusually small for the usual career boys of District 2, having inherited his spritely frame from his mother and standing only at 5’7. In fact he inherited most of his features from the woman, who actually hails from District 1. He received her wavy, golden blonde locks, which he lets fall to just above his eyes. He also has her smooth skin and pixie-like features, giving him the look of a “pretty boy.” His perfectly white teeth and overall pristine appearance truly sets him apart in a District of miners.
The one trait he did inherit from his father however, was his piercing blue eyes that seem able to bore into anyone who meet his gaze. His eyes are so pale that it's hard to tell whether it's the icy shade or his freezing stare that make his gaze so cold.
Though Julian is small and thin, that does not mean he is frail by any means. He is actually very muscularly toned from his lifetime of training, and his size makes him agile and lethal. His knack for combat and natural reflexes have left him with little to no scars from mistakes in training days. Of course, if there ever is a knick or a scratch, scar cream is a luxury his family's wealth has easily afforded.
Though coming from the wealth of two victors, Julian is not one to ever dress up. He can usually be found in some sort of athletic wear due to his rigorous training schedule, and in general prefers more comfortable clothing to some of the fashions his mother will bring from the Capitol.
Having lived a cushy life, even more so than usual for an upper district citizen due to his parent’s Victor wealth, hardship is not something Julian has ever had to face. This has left him with a naïve, yet positive view on quality of life, the Capitol, and the Games. It's also given him a rather prejudiced view of the lower, poorer Districts. In general, he has a cheerful and outgoing nature that easily charms almost anyone he meets. Of course, that's just another aspect of his years of training: learning to charm an audience.
The characteristic that most drives Julian’s personality however, would absolutely have to be his competitive nature, which was instilled in him by his parents at a very young age. This is both his greatest asset and his fatal flaw. He is far too proud to lose and tends to make almost anything a competition. This includes physical competitions as well as mind games. The latter people don’t usually even realize they are playing with him until he has beaten them.
His competitive nature brings out all of his worst traits, which he hides under that cheery, charming smile of his. Julian is both vain and selfish, but even more dangerous to his rivals are his skills in persuasion and his mastery of the arts of manipulation and sneakiness.
His ruthless nature in competition has grown worse as he has gotten older. This has been due to three main factors, his training being the first. The second would be his compensation for his smaller stature; Julian is quick to let everyone know just who is in charge when he is around. Lastly, he revealed himself to be gay at the age of fourteen and refuses to let anyone question his dominance and strength based on such. Julian Bryze is an alpha male and any opposition is quickly terminated.
Julian was born to two previous victors of the Hunger Games: Pashmina Dare, a beautiful, petite blonde woman from District 1, and Serge Bryze, a monstrous victor 3 years prior to Pashmina.
His parents had met in the capitol while mentoring Games a few years later and almost instantly fell for each other, both having fierce and strong-willed personas. Though it took a lot of convincing, mountains of paperwork and painstaking headaches, it was finally approved that Julian’s mother could move from District 1 to District 2 and be with her love, Serge.
Not but a year after marriage, the two had a beautiful baby boy, Julian. The two were so proud and became determined to give him the same glory they had achieved by making him a victor in the Hunger Games.
It became clear, even at a young age, that Julian had inherited his mother’s size and would not have his father’s advantages in the arena. Despite his mother’s change of heart, Serge still insisted Julian would one day go into the Games and bring even more glory to the Bryze name. So Pashmina grudgingly agreed, and they trained their son. It was a little too odd how many victor's children seemed to be reaped and Pashmina was not about to send her son in unprepared.
In the earlier days of Julian’s training, he would often cry and admit he just wanted to go play with the other kids. However this always ended up in physical punishment, teaching Julian at a young age to either win or be beaten, literally. In fact, there was no such thing as just trying hard to his father.
“In the arena, 2nd place still leaves you dead,” his father had once told him harshly, “So the same goes for you in life, you hear?”
“Yes, sir,” Julian had responded fervently.
However, though his father was tough, his mother was tougher. She knew Julian’s father would push him to enter the Games one way or another someday, and she refused to watch her beloved son die on television, so she trained him even harder. Beyond her good looks, he had inherited much of her physical ability as well. Beauty was far from Pashmina's only winning quality. Thus, Julian grew to be strong, even if he wasn’t muscled like his father, he had built up great endurance, and his most useful assets became his speed, agility and dexterity. Of course his knack for handling a blade doesn't hurt either.
At the age of twelve, even though he lived in the Victor’s village, his father began demanding Julian sign up for the tesserae every year to up his chances of entering the arena. Now at 16 years old, time is running out, and while his chances of being reaped are still growing, his father's pressure for him to volunteer is stronger than ever.
