New blood joins this earth,
And quickly he's subdued.

He stands tall in leather and cotton and denim. He refuses any materials not crafted from living things for it's not Ripred's way. On his feet are leather boots, rising to his knees. Beneath them are richly dyed, but very worn, jeans. A belt of black leather circles his waist. Tucked into it is a folding knife. Hiding the weapon is a grey t-shirt and a black leather jacket. Dressed in Ripred's colours of black and grey, he hides his intentions in a plain exterior.

Through constant pained disgrace
The young boy learns their rules.

He keeps the sides of his head buzzed short, but lets the top grow long. His features look tired though he is still so young. Dark eyes and pale skin contrast, made sharper by how dark his hair is. Some could call his features rat-like, which will only make him smile knowingly. He is extremely skinny, using his own meal to feed the rats in the walls as an offering to Ripred. Any one of them could be a messenger to the god. Any of them could be Ripred himself. His charity extends only to rats and his brother, beyond whom the rest of the world was in desperate need to be saved.

With time the child draws in.
This whipping boy done wrong.

His real father left long before he was born, barely stopping in to impregnate Mary Tod before running off again. Mary had known the relationship would never last, but she had never imagined that the encounter would leave her with a child, let alone two. She was very young at the time, only fourteen, and the man - more of a boy at the time - had been nineteen. Feeling ashamed that her single act of carelessness had placed her in such a position, she had proclaimed to everyone that she was pregnant by Ripred - for as the innocent girl she was she could have never touched a man in such a way. Eventually she came to believe her own tale and by the time the twins were born, she was more devout than anyone else around.

Ansgar was born the first of the two, coming into the world a mere minute before Anselm. Mary named them Ripred's spear and Ripred's shield, certain that the children of Ripred could serve only Him. Raising her children to know the miracle of their birth, she prayed to them after praying to Ripred, asking that they continue to grant her their presence and affection for a little while longer. In all her time, it was the most selfish action she could have done, but by the grace of Ripred it was granted. The twins remained by their mother's side until they were fourteen, when they began to wander.

A vow unto his own

Under the direction of Ripred, the twins obtained, created, and trained with a number of weapons. Ansgar focused on the offensive, teaching himself how to strike quickly and severely. He was the spear of Ripred, the weapon the god would wield in the time of a fight, and as such he would need to be ready for such an occurrence. Progress was slow, and the techniques he learned are mutated versions of real strikes. Anselm turned to defensive tactics, learning about shield use and how to parry and block. As with his brother, each move he practiced was a malformed version of an actual motion used in defense. When they were individually good enough, as viewed by Ripred, they turned to fighting one another. Training against one another divided their specialties further until neither could beat the other.

That never from this day

In the beginning Ripred asked few things of them. Most of their instruction was to train and perfect their fighting, which both did eagerly. The first deed each were to do was to acquire their first weapon. Ansgar was guided to a folding knife, originally used by a farmer to cut bailing twine. His test was to take the knife without being noticed. Eager to prove himself, Ansgar nearly the spoiled the whole thing by moving ahead too quickly. With the near-miss to shake him, he eventually retrieved the weapon. In that first moment, Ansgar sensed that Ripred wished him to keep the weapon a secret from his brother. When they met up again, neither spoke of what they were asked to retrieve or whether they were successful or not. This was lesson in obeying Ripred before all else, even each other.

He tries to please them all –
This bitter man he is.

Ripred's next lesson was one to drive them together. Ansgar had to fashion a bow; Anselm had to fashion a buckler. It took them weeks to work on their creations. Each struggled greatly with their task and only the driving force of squealing rats kept them from requesting an easier assignment from Ripred. After what seemed like much too long, Ansgar's bow finally worked. The three arrows he had fashioned flew straight and true and the bow put power behind them. Anselm completed his buckler at nearly the same time. When they were finished, Ripred instructed them to exchange what they had just made. They would now have a piece of each other to carry with them to aid them in whatever they were sent to do.

Throughout his life the same –
He's battled constantly.

The next task came in the form of creating their signature item. For Ansgar, that was a spear. He spent two weeks working on it; selecting the wood, carving it, sanding it, balancing it. He even went to the extent of making a head for the spear out of metal, a long drawn out process of using a campfire to heat the metal and using a stolen hammer to form it into a blade. When completed, he presented it as an offering to Ripred. However, the god refused the gift and said that it was Ansgar's to wield. Anselm had created a shield, on which the device was a rat that stood on its back legs. They had finally passed the Ripred's training.

This fight he cannot win –
A tired man they see no longer cares.

What I've felt, what I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown.

Ansgar Tod is eighteen. He lives in District Ten with his brother Anselm and his mother Mary.

Ansgar suffers from psychosis and as such experiences symptoms including hallucinations and delusions.

He and his brother have genuinely made and stolen weapons. The fact that they haven't been caught is due to their heightened sense of paranoia, which drives them to hide everything that they do from everyone - and sometimes even each other.

Never be. Never see.
Won't see what might have been.

The way they learned about fighting styles and weapon use was through the Games, which they have attempted to emulate with limited success. Due to mostly working off of memory and having no one to properly coach them, their techniques are malformed and horribly mutated from any proper moves and actions. While they function, to an extent, these skills would not serve very well against someone who knew proper fighting.
