An intimate inspection of the Cornucopia revealed its identity: a massive mechanical suit, complete with a disfigured face, crooked arms, and rusted limbs. It was like something from a Capitol fantasy movie, robots replacing human hands and human labor (as if that would ever happen). Maze avoided staring at its dead eyes in the sand, and focused on collecting the treasures Kiibo and Lottie had won for them.
Maze didn't expect to walk away with so much. Her allies were battered, bruised, and bloodied, yet nobody seemed to mind now that they had handfuls of supplies. Some of it was quite useful, and most of it was decorative garbage. She wasn't one to complain about freebies, so she didn't think anything of it as she shoved hair dye and stickers into her sleek new jacket.
She stepped over the bodies of the fallen, paying no mind to them. The dead don't speak, and the dead don't care if they're disrespected. She didn't know them well enough to mourn for more than a couple of seconds. Celeste was from her neighboring lower district. There was nothing to say about it, only relief that Maze was not in that position.
The past was the past, and she put it behind her. They kicked through the sands until they found the next strange landmark. Maze noticed the theme of rusted metal and endless junk, but she came across something odd jutting from the sand. Mechanical parts with arms and legs, and a cushion large enough to fit a person. Where had she seen this before?
She pulled out her manual. Her brain put two and two together, and yet she found herself wondering how any of it was possible.
Then again, a hint was a hint...
"Come look at these. I think I might know how they work."
