its been a long time since he had thought about the events of the the 83rd hunger games. he had all the right reasons though to try to forget. his sister had made her mark, at least, that is what others said as they tried to also forget her. maverick was no stranger to to the looks of judgement from around the district. the after math of the games had left even more people with sour tastes in their mouths. that whole games was a mess in the eyes of three, and usually, unless a tribute is doing somewhat well, they arent going to stop what they are doing to try to remember it.

even maverick didnt stop completely. watching his sister on that screen was almost mind numbing at some points. she was just a tinge too much, even for him. she would shout at the tributes with weird bloodlust and maverick always gave his parents the look. they shook their heads in disappointment. "she always thought she was so brave." his parents said.

she was, but not like this.

that next year, maverick had realized that it was time to move on from what had happened to his sister. it was weird, like a part of him had been ripped out and drug through the mud. the idea of trying to move on hurt him, but it probably was what she would have wanted. sometimes the night before she had volunteered replays in his mind, but he doesnt recollect on it too long. he had already made sure that most of things had been repurposed to do something. he kept a few of the notebooks that she had kept, hoping that one day the sketches and writings might help him cope with the fact that he would never see his twin again in the flesh.

however, everything else needed to go, and that process was easy. once he made piece with it. his parents were quick to dump everything that they could in order to make a couple extra dollars. maverick had to upper hand in sharing a room, so he kept things that he knew would mean the world to charisma.

before he had turned 19, his very last reaping, his name had been called on the stage, but he got lucky, it was not his time to go in. it would never be. someone else, who had so much more to fight for decided to take his place. and that was it. he was officially too old to be in the hunger games.

so now his life could really begin.

he started to piece things together, first things first, figuring out the type of work that he wanted to do. he was always told in school that he had the brain to do pretty much anything. his parents also had a good enough reputation that finding work wasnt going to be a challenge. he had taken some interest in intelligence technology, however, using it for bad things never sat right with him. after all, he already had the hero complex down to a science. he couldnt do much with that though. he found work doing odd jobs to begin with. a busboy, a janitor, a technical writer. jobs that he couldnt really get himself too invested in because they did not interest him fully.

his parents tried to get him into an electrician job, because they knew it paid well enough, but maverick declined. doing what his father did, did not interest him in the slightest. he spent a few years trying to keep himself somewhat busy mentally, though the thought of his sister always lingered from time to time. he knew that he was never truly alone in this world, and even in death, their bond as twins could stand the distance.

maverick had been walking to his current odd job when he looked up to see that the local library had been looking for help. he remembered his love for literature and how much he enjoyed learning new things. he walked into the building, knowing well he was going to be late, and decided to inquire. they told him about a junior librarian position that had just opened up, and while he did not have much experience with the duey decimal system, he could at least talk about his love for reading and literature.

his passion scored him an interview, and then eventually a new job. he decided that maybe this job would be the first one that he could hold for a while. it was a learning curve, but maverick had always been up for a challenge. he committed himself to his work, and eventually started getting the hang of the job. the fact that he could always be surrounded by books was always a plus to him.

after a couple years, he had taken over as one of the head librarians in the building he worked in, it was a quiet life, but one that he enjoyed because he had access to pretty much everything that he could have asked for. every time someone came to his desk, they always commented on the picture frame that he had kept with a photo of himself and charisma from when they were seventeen. when people asked who that was in the picture with him, he would smile and just say "the reason i am even here right now."

and he meant that.
