You quickly perk up ignoring Nessa’s initial hesitance. ”I know who you are.” During the time the training center was a training center you had made sure to know who each of the tributes were and their strengths and weaknesses. You wanted to grasp an understanding of how their minds worked before heading into the arena. Unfortunately, you had forgot the one flaw to your logic. People change, you have changed.

Without saying much else you pulled yourself off the ground and picked up your still bloody bat from beneath the bed and headed towards the elevator. Maybe Cad had had the same idea and only she was waiting in district nine. ”Well are you coming?” you called from the elevator, holding it open with your left hand.

The district nine suites were bittersweet for you, a small taste of home with sour reminder that home will never be the same again. You and Cad had made it something of your own. A refugee that she allowed you to have, a place where for a second the protective wall came tumbling down and it was just the two of you, no judgment…a safe space where there were none. You hoped to find her there.

When the elevator door opened and you stepped out, you began to explain. ”We spent the last nights here. I figured she would want to spend some time in district one but evidently I was wrong. Welcome to my slice of home!”

”I know who you are.”

Oh. Maybe it shouldn't surprise me that she knew who I was. It was not every games a Victor's sibling was reaped, something like that spreads like wildfire throughout the Capitol. From the moment I stepped off the train I had people calling my name, pointing at me like I was a spectacle, and looking at me with eyes filled with pity as they pressed their hands against their chest and sighed. Being a namesake tribute added another level of drama to their entertainment, and that was something that they craved more than anything, the suspension was addicting and the citizens Capitol were addicts.

Without warning Antigone pulls herself to her feet, picking up a bat- a bat covered in blood, heading towards the exit. For a moment I am frozen, my eyes glued to her bat and the blood. Whose blood was it? My eyes travel up Antigone back, did she kill them? I swallow hard, licking my lips nervously as she glances over her shoulder at me, pressing the elevator button. ”Well are you coming?”

I stare at the elevator as Jimmy's broken face flashes before my eyes.

Steeling may nerves I quickly follow after her. In the elevator I focus my eyes on the Antigone shoulder. I avoid looking at the ground, at her bat, and begin to count. As soon as the doors open I am slipping out, putting a good amount of distance between between myself and the elevator.

I don't know if Antigone notices my odd behaviour, and I wasn't sure I cared all that much if she did. "We spent the last nights here." She explains, and as she looks around, I notice her face soften ever so slightly. " Welcome to my slice of home!” She beams, as I move deeper into the room.

This was the first place I had run into Arcadia after the cage fights, I had been hiding under that bed right there. Things had been so different then, which is crazy because only a couple days had passed since then... Was it really possible for things to change that quickly? That day we spoke I had been filled with a brightness that I fear has dimmed quite significantly since.

I look around the room, crossing my arms against my chest before I turn my gaze back to Antigone. "I don't think she is here," I sigh before taking a seat on the edge of the bed. "It doesn't really matter, I guess. Its not like I need her," I'm more talking to myself than I am to the other girl. "I just-" didn't want to be alone. My gaze flicked to her bat, the blood looked thicker under the fluorescent lights.

"Who pissed you off?"

Nessa Garner acted like a scared little girl, so feeble compared to your self-assured posture and analytic brain that was constantly grinding its gears to process everything the moment that it had happen. She had survived up until now somehow and you knew Arcadia had some kind of connection with her. What that was, you also never questioned. You trusted Arcadia so in the moment you trusted Nessa enough not to use her blade on you.

Would be very stupid on her part.

You watch her pull a package of rice beans from between the sheets of the bunkbed. The same ones you had pulled out from sheets a few days prior for Roe. Damn bastard did not even have the decency to share a meal with you.

”Who pissed you off?”

You refocus your attention on the only tribute that might have been smaller than yourself and stare her down for a long time. Maia’s blade lashing into Roe’s back played before your eyes in slow motion as you felt the anger rise again in your throat getting caught as you tried to find the words to explain the feeling you had felt in that moment. You turned your weapon so that Maia’s name was facing Nessa. You held it up with pride, you had achieved something that not everyone has had. You proved to yourself that not only did you have what it takes to survive but you had what it took to end a life.

”She messed with my sweetheart and got what she had coming to her” there was not much else to say about the situation, so you headed towards the bedroom to see if Cad was taking a nap.

”Doesn’t seem like she is here either, bummer”

You had a feeling that she was still with Jack but did not want to let that info out all to quickly, she wanted to spend more time with the other garner and get a read on her before she decided where to group her in. Friend or Foe. ”What’s your business with Cad?” you might as well be direct. There is no point in hiding any intentions here.

The girls face seemed to gleam with excitement and satisfaction as she recalled a memory before she extended her bat in my direction, slowly rolling it over to reveal a name, Maia, that had been carved into the blood soaked surface. My stomach clenches, and I fight the urge to move away from the girl and the almost hungry look that danced in her eyes as she crooned, ”she messed with my sweetheart and got what she had coming to her."

Oh my god. She was crazy, or at least firmly heading down that path. What the hell was I doing here? I was so stupid. So damned stupid to follow her into that elevator, into these apartments, into her territory. But I keep my face as neutral as possible as she turns that almost predatory gaze back onto me, studying me in a way that reminded me of Pretzel. A predator stalking its prey.

”What’s your business with Cad?”

Pushing myself up from the bed, I subtly place my hand on the hilt of the sword tucked into my belt. Was it a threat? I was not sure. "Nothing really," I say with a slight shrug, a half truth. "I had no where else to go," how much should I reveal to this girl? How much would be enough for her not to deem me as a threat? and more importantly, if Arcadia wasn't here, or in the rooms back in One where this girl, obviously her ally, then where was she?

There was one name that stood out in bold, I just wasn't sure if I was ready to believe it.

I look at the girl innocently, smiling slightly, "do you think she is with her boyfriend?" I allow myself to laugh a little, as though asking such a question embarrassed me. "Jackson Reeves, I think it is."
