I guess being the only son has it's perks, huh?

Ever since this little tech fair started being talked about at school I have been buggin' my dad to go. Of course, not alone, he's got some trust issue with leaving his children alone. I think it's silly. I'm thirteen! I can handle being on my own. I'm like, grown. The store has become a bigger responsibility now with my own interest - money, making sales. I'm not really into it, but it makes me feel cool and stuff, so I do it to feel the responsibility. Maybe if I'm so good at handling money and stuff they'd let me get a dog!

"A dog is a big responsibility, Ni." My mom says, but it's hard to take those words of wisdom into consideration! I can just like... learn how to take care of a dog on the fly.

Anyway. The fair. Eventually, after enough begging and working at the store (dad sees that I'll work for it), he agrees we can go. I was more interested from all the super cool tech stuff. There's this tiny little comic book store that has a small collection of work that talks about dudes in cool suits with superpowers. I thought that this fair in 3 could offer something like that! They've got like... technology, and stuff. Maybe they could set up a deal with some District 8 clothing warehouse to make supershirts.

Dad isn't really interested in all the techy stuff, but he did figure it's a nice time to try and network the hat business. I don't think 3 is in the business for hats, but I also don't know much about 3! Or 5, or 6 for that matter. So I don't really know what Dad thinks he's doing. He's letting me roam the place by myself, just meet him back at the entrance at a specific time.

There's a corner of the conference hall set up to be a hunger games simulator. While it's not a superhero, being able to come home saying I killed a mutt sounds kinda cool! It does sound dangerous to have a bunch of weapons casually lying around, but who am I to pass up on the story? Everything looks pretty scary to hold as a weapon though. I'd shoot my own eye out with a bow, and throwing axes or knives just won't work well for me. Knifes are basic. They're small, like me.

We were facing some sort of hologram, so it meant it could be anything. A tribute, a victor, a mutt. There was a hum as the hologram began to project itself, making a show of a slow build up from the feet to the head. The right foot was metallic, the left foot human. Hands made of a glimmering metal, holding axes that were small enough to throw, but big enough to cause damage if it was real. Her eyes had a familiar shape, a recognizable brown hue that I found creepy.

"You must recognize me." Her voice, obviously fake, created shivers down my spine. The fact that it can comprehend that I'm here is what shivers me.

"Recognize you? How?" What did she mean?

"What? Does he not have pictures of us anymore?"

Who's he? Who's us?

"I'm afraid you've got me confused." Her body, as if it's old and rusted, creaks as she laughs at my statement.

"I thought family meant more to him."

To who? Why does her family matter to me? I don't get what's going on.

"You're really not good at giving information for being a robot."

As if she had nostrils, a huff-like sound exited the girl like she's upset.

"You have my brother's eyes." She throws the axe toward my face, and I'm confused once more. What does her brother have to do with me? Games history wasn't exactly my strong suit. We don't study it in school outside of the years we've won. I roll, dodging her axe and dig the knife into her side.

"He lucked out, then." Whoever her brother is, he must be lucky to look like me! Hopefully a bit taller than me though.
