Leaving Sanity behind

I cry with Alikia in my arms, my tears reach down my cheek and fall, landing on Alikia’s cheek. Her blood is starting to leak on to my cloths. Holding her in my arms and not being able to do anything scares me and causes these tears to fall. I’m not thinking of the people in Panem watching this and seeing how weak and pathetic I am right now. My attention is on this form of innocence known as Alikia.
When I look into her eyes, they flutter gently like a butterfly’s wings. She raises a shaky hand to wipe the tears off, but a single bead escapes from each eye, replacing the many drops that were racing each other. In my mind, I think of how much effort it must have taken to raise her hand to my face. She takes a breath and I widen my eyes because it all looks to painful.
"Dice..." Ali whispers quietly. I gasp and mentally tell her not to speak in hopes of it letting her live.
"D...don't cry Dice....please....I..d..don't want to remember ....you....as...a..crying......It will b...be....okay..." Alikia says stuttering between words. ‘Please don’t talk like that.’ I say in my mind thinking it will make a difference. Her body seems to be getting colder, so I holder hold her closer.
And a thousand words
One thousand embraces
Will cradle you
Making all of your weary days seem far away
They'll hold you forever
She manages a smile before muttering “Win for me...Dice.....I know you...can...." I can’t help it, drops of tears come running down towards Alikia. She suddenly gasps for air and I make a short scream. When I watch as her crystal green eyes turn into lifeless orbs, I tremble at the sight of what I hold dear being taken away from my arms. Me living seems is worse than her dying right now. Inside my mind I beg death to spare her and take me as a sacrifice.
"Please Alikia...No...Don't go...Please?.."I ask her to stay strong. My begging is answered with a cannon fire for Alikia. I scream into her corpse before holding in my anger and sadness. It’s futile though; I keep whimpering and sobbing for my friend. I take a deep breath to calm myself down, before closing her beautiful, lifeless eyes. The need to comfort her is illogical now since she cannot be comforted, but I can’t let go. I need to do something for Alikia first, to make myself motivated…
I take a look at my bracelet and hold one of its beads before ripping one right off of the lace. The lace is still undamaged, but the hole that connected the dicentra bead is broken. I place it in her hand and close it before giving her a kiss on her forehead. Letting go, I place her delicately on the ground and put her hands to her chest with that bead in her hand. Since it’s a dicentra I’ll always be with her. Another name for dicentra, is bleeding heart because its flower looks like its name. That bead symbolizes to much right now…
I look up to her killers and give them a menacing look to go away immediately. I’m going to regret that act of mercy later, but right now I want Ali’s body to be safe. A helicopter is supposed to come down for her body but I won’t leave until her murderers do. I continue to glare at them, hoping it would give that signal.
