[/size]Gregg Linton
As Gregg actually thought he was getting somewhere he learned that he was going nowhere. She was acting interested in him, that he was sure about. It was hard for him to understand where this girl was coming from. Was she basically thinking that if she threw him off he would go away. That was just not going to happen. Gregg was not exactly one to go away after being lead on. He was determined to get things, and this girl was something that he was somewhat sure he wanted. Gregg was not one to thing about that though; he was more a guy who went on instinct, not a guy who went on calculated moves. It was easier to live life on instinct, it made everything a lot easier.
She was swimming away from him then, he actually was very surprised. It was like she wanted him there; and then the next second she did not. Trying to understand her was not something that Gregg could do easily. She was trying to confuse him, she knew that he was in control of the situation, it was obvious that she wanted it though. She wanted to get her confidence back, the confidence to insult Gregg. Thinking of that he was actually amazed, she was no longer throwing insults at him left and right, she was being somewhat decent to him. People only pulled their friends into the water, enemies or people they did not like were pushed in from behind; stabbed in the back.
"You know what's a burden? You."
Gregg did not exactly agree with this statement. He was not the one who got pulled in... well, he did let himself fall in. But she was not one who could be sure of that. Gregg looked strong, but for all she knew he was not. She was tough, she easily could have pulled him in, well, that was not true, but it could have been. Gregg needed to stop thinking untruthful things. He knew he fell in, now he needed to stop looking awkwardly at her. He started to drift towards her, purposely of course, but it was doubtful she would notice.
"Am I really the burden? You pulled lil' ole' me in. I was just trying to be nice." That may have been a load of crap, but she might have bought it if she was dumb. The sarcastic tone probably did not help him though, it probably hurt. She might like him for that tone though, she seemed like the person who would like a rude boy. No, not in the sense of abusive, but in the sense of sarcastic humor. He thought what he said was funny, so he smiled. It probably was not the smartest thing to do, but he was truthfully amused with this girl. She was gaining on his feelings, but he had no clue why. Maybe he liked girls with attitude.
"It's not my responsibility to babysit you. But I'm glad those kids would be happy to."
Gregg knew that she was talking about girls sitting on the dock watching him. He did not have to look over to know they were there. Those girls were desperate, he could be with all of them at the same time and they would be quite happy about it. It was pathetic what some would do just to get with Gregg, and to think, he was scared of other guys. It was kind of sad. He was not that good looking; well, he was. But Gregg was not rich, there were rich guys in in District Four, Gregg was not among them. He had no problem with that, but he was sure that money would be a nice thing for him. Gregg then spoke just loud enough for the girl next to him to hear.
"But I'm not interested in them. They are desperate. I am not interested in them." Without turning to look at the girls, he spoke in a much louder voice, obviously directed to his stalkers, "Just leave, I'm not interested. Yes, you girls on the dock. Go find someone else..." For good measure he stuck up his middle finger, the girl he was interested in would probably like that. She seemed like the girl who appreciated rudeness.
