i've seen days of chaos ,
winter rains that wouldn't leave, but i came clean cause i believe.
winter rains that wouldn't leave, but i came clean cause i believe.
What were Chandra's biggest pet peeves? Children with runny noses. When a man had a bigger chest than she did. Being left alone with someone she had just been introduced to. Really humid days. People with staring problems. Seaweed in her hair. The last two were currently irking her as she sat at the harbor, barefeet just touching the surface of the water. The seventeen-year old's hands were up in her hair, trying to dislodge the wad of ocean foliage which had graciously chose to adorn her. She had been diving for scallops earlier in the day. It was spring, and scallops were the most rare, they hid and were difficult to find. But Chandra had managed to find some towards the cliffs and in the process of diving, emerged from the water looking like Medusa.
Now, let me tell you something. Chandra is not normally a ray of sunshine. The fishermen in District Four were often reluctant to hire her because of her haughty attitude. She wasn't difficult to work with, per ce, but she was not a pleasure. Chandra rarely spoke on the job and when she did, it was usually a jab at something. She listened well, followed instructions and got the job done, but in a community full of excellent swimmers she wasn't a commodity. Sure, Chandra knew she could change, be a nicer person, but she saw no need. She was too vain to change herself. The way she saw it, if people had a problem with her it was their fault. It didn't occur to her that maybe is was her own fault that almost everyone in the district didn't like her. It should have been a sign, but it was wasted on her.
It was normal for Chandra to be alone and she didn't mind. It was peaceful to her and allowed her to sort out the thoughts in her head. And it let her concentrate on getting the seaweed out of hair. Unfortunately, no matter how hard she tried, the greenery remained tangled in her hair. To her it seemed like it was growing, spurting roots and stems far faster than she could remove it. Exasperated, she let out a loud groan which forced a few on lookers to shy away. Gritting her teeth, she lay back down on the wood of the dock, looking up at the orange sky.
