```Shayde Lee Truedhart , , ,
When your destiny leads you to the end,
You kind of have to wonder why you follwed it.
You kind of have to wonder why you follwed it.
Everytime her blade sliced through nothing but air and missed the target; the threat. Luckily she had been able to dodge the animal's previous attack and had saved herself from another deep flesh wound. What was running through her head? His attacks weren't landing very well on the mutt either ... Was she disappointed? After this battle, if they were both still alive and the hound dead, would she try to kill him? Would she get rid of him then? Shayde knew he was a burden, a dead-weight, a distraction. The list truly was endless.
Looking at her, bleeding out, he could've cried. If he was in a different state of mind, he could've felt a bit more distressed. But he wasn't in his right mind. He felt weakened and battered, but then felt a sort of strength within himself. A strength that told him to fight on and to show only courage and bravery to this beast in front of him. And deep down, he knew Damaris would be okay. Although her wounds were deep and her attacks poor, she would survive this battle. Possibly even the whole battle. The real battle. The Games.
He began to wonder why his brother had always dreamed of the Games. Shayde couldn't help but seeing him jealous when he saw his kid brother volunteer for the Games. Shayde couldn't help but picture his face as he saw his 18 year old brother living his dream. Shayde's dream. No, no, no ... This wasn't his dream this was his brother's dream. Terrance's dream. But Shayde couldn't see how this could be a dream ... For him, or for his brother. How could Terrance see being in an Arena killing innocent children your age and younger a dream? If it was anything, it was a nightmare.
]
His eyes wandered back to Damaris. What was her story? Shayde knew his own. His brother and him were inseparable, his brother was twelve and wanted to kill children but his parents wouldn't allow him to sign up for tesserae or volunteer, and then he was 18 and because his dream could no longer be fulfilled, he left. Just got up and left. Left Shayde, his only brother behind with his parents. Shayde had thought that Terrance cared a little more about him. He had thought that the Games weren't more important to him than his brother. But it turned out they were, and he left for the Capitol in search of something that allowed him to be close to the Games.
But Shayde didn't know her story. Who is she? A girl from District 10. A tribute in the 59th Hunger Games. What is she like? Nice. Simple. Or, at least, she appeared that way. But that really didn't say much to him. Who is she? What is her purpose? Why is she the way she is? Those were the real questions, the ones that mattered. Shayde knew that she had to be more than just a pretty face. More than just a girl who was 'nice' and 'simple.' No one was perfect. And from what Shayde had seen of her so far, she really did seem perfect. And he knew it wasn't true.
And so the next swing of his hammer was for Damaris. Not the one in pain, not the one slicing the mutt, not the 'nice' and 'simple' one. The real one. The real Damaris. The Damaris he knew he should try to find ... Before his death.
